The Nosferatu Adventures
page 340, chapter 340

Out of Time

"She's going to go through withdrawals soon." Vlad said cautiously as he stood beside Edric, his arms crossed. The two males were standing in the middle of a corner store parking lot, waiting for our heroine. "After all that time actually hunting. She's going to be in for a time of it over the next few days. Do you think you'll be able to handle it?" the older male raised an eyebrow as he silently doubted Edric was up for the task. Nodding Edric licked his lips waiting for the other shoe to drop. Vlad looked around as if expecting someone to run up from all directions. It was a habit he'd never gotten out of, having to constantly look over his shoulder for attackers. "And when her head's cleared and she's once again used to the iv bags; will you be able to handle what comes next? Huh? I mean, it's already started hasn't it?"

"What the shack are you getting at?" the sandy-blonde hybrid ran his hand through the limp mohawk before blinking in confusion.

"The fact she needs to be with a pack alpha. Nosferatu is dare I say, designed for it."

"Well, no worries there." Edric replied smirking. "We don't even have a pack to have an alpha for." his words were a little too smug even to his own ears.

"Of course we do! It just doesn't look like you think it should look like." Vlad retorted gesturing towards the nearly empty street. "And if you let yourself admit what you already know, then you already know the answer to who's actually the alpha. Hint, it's not you."

"Well it's obviously not Arthur. He's barely got his marbles most of the time. I suppose you're going to tell me it's you?" Edric said crossing his arms taking a guarded stance.

"You really need to open your eyes and see what's going on around you." Vlad raised his chin with authority. "Be prepared to fight for what you believe belongs to you already. Be prepared to possibly loose a friend in the process. Unless you're willing to bow down to Seward."

"Seward?" Edric shook his head in a double take, his eyes fluttering in shock. "Seward?"

"It's his house we all live in. His authority we have been bowing down to in polite hospitality. He's the one taking care of us, stepping in between yourself and Arthur when you fight, feeding everyone, paying for everything. He's naturally stepped into the role of alpha right under your nose and you allowed it. It's only a matter of time before he takes Nosferatu too." Vlad stiffened slightly as he tilted his neck to the side. "Somethings..." he sniffed deeply.

"Blood." the two males said in unison just as our heroine walked out of the store a large plastic bag in hand.

"Here these are for you." she remarked slapping a small pack of disposable razors into Edric's shoulder.

"You've got red sauce on your shirt." Edric whispered pointing just above her boobs as he nervously looked around to make sure no one saw. Vlad had already moved past them into the store. There just on the floor beside the check out counter, was a guy unconscious, a knife beside his broken hand. A few feet away from him behind the counter, the checker was drooling and babbling like a drunk. The dark haired male snorted in frustration before returning back outside, grabbing our heroine by the elbow and guiding her back into the store.

"What the hell is this?" Vlad's voice never rose, never wavered.

"A nice light snack." she began to giggle. "What? He was in the middle of robbing the place when I walked in, so I took care of it. He's still alive. His body anyways. And that one will be fine in a day or so. Just running on empty till the medics get here. Which, by the way, I was polite enough to call so we should go."
