movie: The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
starring: Judi Dench, Bill Nighy
genre: Drama
year: 2011/2012
format: Shaw Video On Demand
plot: A group of retired seniors, all head to India for the summer before settling into their lives as retirees. Along the way, they learn about their dreams and help each other and the hotel owner find his own dream.
This is based on the book.
There are a lot of characters to be introduced in the first twenty minutes, giving the beginning of the film a bit of a whiplash feeling. But, as it progresses, you neatly fit into the story as you start to understand the mix-matchedness of the group.
This is a slower moving story, with a few predictable moments, like the one lady falling for the gay man. The young couple in the story I know was there to help balance and ground the rest of the characters, but they almost felt like they were becoming too much of the focus point, taking too much of the story away from the rest of the group.
what do i think i learned from this film?
It's never too late for you to start over and live up to your dreams.
