Day 238

movie: Monster House
starring: Maggie Gyllenhaal, Mitchel Musso
genre: Comedy, Paranormal,
year: 2006
format: Shaw Video On Demand

plot: Two kids are watching the spooky house across the street on Hallowe'en night, wondering why the old guy always takes everyone's toys when they land on his lawn.  After the old neighbour ends up in the hospital, the kids notice even stranger things happening because of the house and soon come to only one conclusion, it's alive.

I am scratching my head as to why this is listed as a kids movie?  There are under tones of classics from the 80's like Monster Squad and Lost Boys to this, but don't let the fact it's animation fool you.  This movie is geared for a PG-13

Could this have worked as a live action film?  Story wise, yes, but it would have drowned in special effects if it had and that would have taken away from it's plot.

This tackles the topics of first puppy love crushes, and obsessive love.  From one extreme to the other, we see human nature for what it can become when unchecked.

what do i think i learned from this film?
Creepy houses are always a good character plot point in any movie.  Some life lesions we learn at an early age, and some we never learn.
