It's Hallowe'en. And I had hoped to have this big picture fest of projects done for this season finale post. But, some parts failed, other things didn't get completed, and still other items just never fitted in with the scheme of it. So I thought, I'd go nostalgic serving up some sex, blood, and rock n roll.
Trick or Treat
plot: High school student Eddie Weinbauer is the ultimate Sammi Curr fan. When the news of the heavy metal singer's death hits him, Eddie begins to feel like the world is against him. Which is only impacted by the fact the school jocks have been bullying him a lot. After receiving the last known unreleased record of Curr's from the local radio dj, Eddie experiences Curr's spirit talking to him from beyond the grave. Every time Eddie plays the record backwards, a new message seems to appear with just the right advice. Eddie himself seems content with getting the jocks sent to detention and suspended from school, but Curr has other plans. Before long, Eddie, his new girlfriend, and his best friend Roger, find themselves having to battle the deranged spirit of Curr.
This is the 1986 heavy metal horror classic starring Marc Price and Tony Fields.
The film always seems to get remembered for the short guest cameos by Gene Simmons and Ozzy Osbourne. That and the killer soundtrack.
And the big debate is what was Sammi Curr? Most fans take it at face value and just write him off as being a straight up ghost. Which on one hand is true. Some chalk him up as a demon. He's also a vampire (he needs to feed on energy be it people's life force or electricity), and an elemental (he is pure electric pulses, more like lightening then the fire that killed him). You can also classify him as a witch, because of the ritual that caused his death to begin with. All this makes him the perfect horror villain. Unstoppable, uncaring, with knowledge from beyond the grave.
Queen of the Damned
plot: Vampire Lestat has become the biggest rock star on the planet. And for one night only, will be preforming live. Only there is more then just his devoted fans who are planning on coming to the show. He's angered the vampire community by telling the world about the other vampires, breaking a vow of silence. He's even managed to get the attention of the first vampire, Akasha, who's been in a coma for thousands of years. Kidnapping him, Akasha plans on removing humanity from the planet.
This is the 2002 horror drama starring Stuart Townsend and Aaliyah. Based on two novels by Anne Rice - The Vampire Lestat and The Queen of the Damned.
I love this movie. But, not as much as I did the books. Totally to be expected though. And the soundtrack, it's to die for! The choice of Townsend to play Lestat at that point in the narrative, was a fairly good one. He manages to capture the smugness the character has in that point of The Vampire Chronicles. The books were done in the 1980's, and I think the only real downfall is that they didn't set the movie in the 1980's as well.
And what's a movie without snacks? Here's my Witches of Eastwick party mix
Everyone remembers the cherries in Witches of Eastwick. But, I couldn't get a scene from the original book out of my head when watching it the other day...yes you read that right. I was watching the movie, which made me think of the book and how the original novel points out how the characters have very different eating habits. One eats only salty food, one only eats sweet etc. (Sukie in the book only eats crunchy-nutty things like celery, nuts, pretzels) So I always get stuck on the opening martini scene, and the spread of snacks.
I went really basic with this too, Rice Chex cereal, pretzel sticks, pecan pieces, buttered popcorn, cheese flavoured goldfish (because they are on a coastal fishing area), and dried cranberries (couldn't find cherries) I thought this was a fabulous Hallowe'en treat.
I had planned on doing a big meal, but backed off because Witches of Eastwick will be my second hosting gig in 2016 for Food n Flix.
Happy Halowe'en!

13 Days of Hallowe'en Day 12
Friday Pie Day.
I decided after months of drooling over the pies on Girlichef's blog (now renamed All Roads lead to the Kitchen) that I would join in this one time. See, once a month on the last Friday, Heather makes a pie and encourages people to join in the blogging baked fun. And every time I see a new pie recipe, I end up craving it for days afterwards...and wanting a Supernatural marathon...( her icon)
At first, I was thinking same old same old with the idea of going right to Twilight for an apple pie or Monster Squad for a cherry pie connection. But, done that before on here with my first vampire dinner. Then there is the indie movie Vampie, but, that sounds worse then it is. (it's a comedy, low low budget but a comedy with just a hint of Vampire-Masquerade. I'll cover it some other time) Then I thought about doing a savory pie and connecting it to Sweeney Todd by doing a vegetarian meatless meat pie. (all selections would have kept with the Hallowe'en theme for this month) Meanwhile,
I couldn't get the line from the episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer out of my head "a ritual sacrifice with pie" (season 4 episode "Pangs") but again, that lead me to think of Thanksgiving, not Hallowe'en.
But Twin Peaks did. If you've never seen the show or the movie Fire Walk With Me, then you might not get the creepy factor. (dude I still don't watch it at night or with the lights off) But, if you have seen them, then you know having a "piece of pie and some damn fine coffee" was a theme that ran rampant throughout.
So once the movie/show connection was figured out, I had to decide what kind of pie. Cherry pie was the main flavour throughout the series, and the character of Audrey Horne was connected to the whole cherry motif with the knot trick and her outfits. Meanwhile, the character of Laura Palmer was suppose to be as "wholesome" as apple pie. That got me thinking about how some apples are tart while others are sweeter.
So this is my Twin Peaks "sweet-tart" (get it sweetheart) pie. An apple-cherry.
Crust
2 and 3/4 cup flour
1 cup unsalted butter cold, cut into small pieces
1/2 cup milk and lemon juice
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 Tablespoon ground black pepper
This makes two crusts, a top and bottom style.
Mix flour, sugar, salt, pepper, in a bowl
Add the milk and lemon juice mixture,
Add butter, blend till it's like little pebbles
Chill for about 45 minutes
Divide dough, rolling out enough for a bottom crust, and one for a top crust
Filling
2 Granny Smith apples peeled and sliced
1 tablespoon cinnamon
1 can of cherry pie filling
layer apples on the bottom crust, sprinkle cinnamon, then layer the cherry pie filling
then add the top crust,
bake at 350degrees for 60 minutes depending on your oven
And my crust exploded just a bit on the edges.
I had wanted the cherry element to be black cherries, but was unable to find any, so canned cherries had to do.
This actually was a plus, as I did not need to add any extra sugar that I would have had to otherwise.

13 days of Hallowe'en Day 11
Goosebumps
plot: After moving to a new town, Zach believes his neighbour is being held against her will by her dad. Breaking into the neighbour's house, Zach and his new buddy Champ, discover that their neighbour is none other then author R.L.Stine. Curious as to why he has all the original manuscripts to his famous books under lock and key, the two boys decide to open one. To their horror it unleashes one of the monsters from the story. Too bad for them, it wasn't the only one, as a ventriloquist's dummy, Slappy, has been awakened as well. Slappy steals all the remaining books and begins to free the monsters, wrecking havoc on the town.
This is the 2015 comedy horror starring Jack Black and Dylan Minnette
So, yay me, got to the cinema.
Try to do this without spoilers as it is still in cinemas. Even though Jack Black has three roles : Stine, Slappy and the voice of the Invisible Boy; there wasn't enough of him on screen for my tastes. Yes, I get this was targeted to kids, and therefore the teenagers were the "stars" of the piece, but Black stole the scenes he was in.
There wasn't a whole lot different then anything you've seen on the tv show, it kept it's pace and managed to keep the large assortment of monsters in check. There were by my count, seven featured bad guys in this with the "rest" being crowd filler. Which, given the source material, was a feet in itself. This could have branched off into a ton of different story lines, but managed to keep it tight enough to be easy to follow.
I loved the little nods to The Shining, and the typewriter. I actually felt there were a few threads that kick back to the bases of The Shining and Stephen King's Dark Half and Secret Window.
Did I mention I hate ventriloquist dummies? I think that was the perfect selection for the big bad in this.
What would I like to see in the sequel...more Jack Black.

13 Days of Hallowe'en Day 10
What's Hallowe'en without a few zombies? Well, normally, my type of Hallowe'en, but I have admitted before, I totally dig the show iZombie. So this is my "zombie" inspired recipe. (yeah it was suppose to be few days ago, but I screwed up)
A cheesy brains (cauliflower) casserole.
1 cauliflower brain (full cauliflower)
1 cup cheese cut into cubes or shredded
3 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup milk
3 tablespoons flour
ground black pepper to taste
hot sauce to taste
diced frozen hash-browns
1/2 cup green beans
onion
oil
Cut cauliflower into smaller parts, drizzle with oil, bake for 15 minutes on 350degrees
add hash-browns and green beans, baking for another 15 minutes,
chop or dice onion (your choice) add to dish,
I made a basic cheese sauce : melt butter, add milk stirring, add flour and ground pepper, continue to stir
add cheese (I used a medium cheddar), and hot sauce, continue to stir on very low heat until all the cheese has melted and the sauce has started to thicken.
pour over dish, continue to bake for another 10 minutes
Okay, I have to admit, I had done a completely different recipe for this post few days ago, and was not happy with it. Therefore, I had to skip it (this was suppose to be right after the grouping of zombie films)
If you want a more "horror" appeal to the dish, you could use a white cheese which will hold the pinkish/red colour of the hot sauce more.

13 Days of Halowe'en Day 9
Carrie (remake)
plot: After being bullied by the girls in her school, a shy girl learns that she has telekinesis. One of the girls; Sue, feels guilty, and tries to make up for her part in the bullying, by letting Carrie go to the prom with her boyfriend. But Chris, one of the worst of the bullies, had video taped the incident, and after getting caught, is banned from the prom. Chris takes revenge by setting a trap for Carrie, which involves rigging the prom votes and a bucket of blood. Carrie soon turns her high school humiliation into a town wide disaster.
This is the 2013 thriller starring Chloe Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore. Based on the Stephen King novel of the same name.
Well...I watched this online, and it didn't really have many differences from the original 1976 movie version. I did think the ending of the pregnant nightmare was an interesting way to come full circle in the story though.
I was glad to see, that they did not over do it with modern technology in this version. The use of cell phones and internet as props were kept to a minimum. I don't think you can make a movie that will hold up over time, when you over run it with gadgets. It dates something worse then any bad fashion/hairdo could.
I would have loved to have seen some more back story for Moore's character of the mother. For instance, there is a scene where she has to deal with a customer in her shop and she starts to slice her leg open under the counter while the customer rambles on. Why? I would love to have been given a few scenes where we learned more about what made her the way she was.

13 Days of Hallowe'en Day 8
It's that time of year again, when the crispness of the leaves melts in the air with the scent of pumpkin pie spice and hot apple cider. When horror movies go on sale at the store, and late night television has movie marathons of classic and not so classic films filled with vampires, witches, werewolves and zombies. And of course, candy! Lots and lots of candy appears out of nowhere tempting us to devour it in preparation for the coming hibernation season many of us prefer... Yeah I already covered that on Day one , but I needed something to have as a lead in...
And nothing says hibernation during winter like a big bowl of goulash. So in the spirit of Hallowe'en, here's my version of a vegetarian goulash that even Grandma-ma Addams would be happy with. And so that's what I'm dubbing it.
Grandma-ma Addams's GHOUL-ASH
Did you dig my play on words there...ghoul-ash instead of goulash...you laughed admit it.
Okay, so let's dissect this shall we. There are literally hundreds of recipes for goulash, all claiming to be authentic. I claim no such thing. For starters, the word goulash comes from the word for herdsman -gulyas and the word gulyashus; which loosely translated means cattle meat. And it depending on where you were, it's a soup not a stew.
I wanted a stew cause it was raining out and I could think of nothing but thick gravy and fresh bread to slop it up with.
As you can see, I chose to use a veggie sausage for my meat replacement item. These are those rare moments when being a vegetarian sucks, trying to find decent ways to make a meat heavy dish into a vegetarian one.
Ingredients
1 or 2 veggie sausages (I used a spicier one)
1/2 pound potatoes (I used a can of whole small sized)
1 stalk celery chopped
water
salt
black pepper
marjoram
paprika
splash of red wine
half a red onion chopped or sliced (your choice)
oil
In the oil, heat the onion and the veggie sausage, then add the chopped celery
add potatoes and water to cover,
bring to a boil, then simmer for 10 minutes, stirring once and a while.
add paprika, pepper, marjoram, salt to taste,
stir and continue to simmer for another 10-15 minutes,
add splash of red wine, continue to simmer
Now, if you were to use beef/mutton you would find that it naturally thickens, as the marrow/gelatin would seep out and thicken it naturally; but given this is a vegetarian version, I had to use flour to thicken it.
And I added a dollop of sour cream for the hell of it.

13 days of Hallowe'en Day 7
Warm Bodies
plot: A few years into the zombie apocalypse, we follow a few of the zombies through their daily life. One of whom, after eating the brain of a young man, begins to take on his memories and emotions, falling in love with the dead guy's girl. Fearing separation from the new love interest, the zombie takes it upon himself to keep her safe, and accidentally exposes her to a worse breed of zombie.
This is the 2013 romantic comedy starring Nicholas Hoult and John Malkovich. Based on the book of the same name.
Have I mentioned lately how much I really really really hate the story Romeo and Juliet? Cause I do. I was always a Hamlet girl myself. But...that's what you've got here, a zombie spin on the Shakespeare tale. And did I happen to mention this film is by the same people who did the Twilight films...enough said.
So the basic theme here that I gathered, was that whole idea that you should never give up hope, and to always have faith in love and never stop believing that everyone is redeemable.
They really seem to play up the idea that love is blind, which I suppose it would have to be to date a corpse. Not too mention nose blind cause...anyways, half the zombies make it to the end of the movie because like the virus that is never explained that turned them to begin with; the love Romeo and Juliet feel, spreads like a ...virus. And the half that don't make it to the end of the movie, the weird skeleton zombies...yeah I don't get how that works either...have long since given in to despair and depression, having lost touch with their humanity because they lost the love...man.
Did I like it? It was cute. Would I watch it again? Sure down the road but not right away again. Would I buy it? No doubt it.
Seriously, why people continue to think Romeo and Juliet is the big romantic story, is tragic. Cause basically it's telling a bunch of teenagers that that first rush of lust is the end all and that it never gets better therefore you should over react and kill yourself. Dude, seriously, it's not meant to be beautiful, it's meant to be a slap to the face to tell people not to be that gullible.

13 Days of Halloween Day 6
The Revenant
plot: After a solider is mysteriously killed, he wakes up a month later in the cemetery. Not understanding what has happened and thinking he was accidentally buried alive, Bart turns to his best friend for help who deciding that he is either a vampire or a zombie, begins testing him with crosses and holy water, which have no affect, but it's clear Bart's in need of blood. The two end up killing a local gang leader draining his blood, which leads them on a killing spree in which Joey gets shot and Bart needs to drink his blood to save him, turning him. Things get completely out of control when they discover the gang leader is one of them.
This is a 2009/2010 horror comedy starring David Anders and Chris Wylde.
Don't eat while watching the first half of this movie.
This is a buddy comedy as much as it is a vampire-zombie movie. I love that they leave the character in the undefined category, really grabbing back at the original ideal of a ghoul as found in folklore. But if you've been reading me for long, you know I love when folklore is referred to breaking out of the "traditional hollywood" standards.
The film has it's Robin Hood moments, with the idea that the lead only attacks bad guys, taking from them, and playing up the idea that at first, he's very noble in his actions.
The actual opening scene where Bart becomes a revenant is done so that you never see who turned him. The open ended theory also plays on gothic stories and folklores.
David Anders is not only perfect for this, he could easily become the new king of the genre. (Vampire Diaries, iZombie and Once Upon a Time {as Dr. Frankenstein})

13 Days of Hallowe'en Day 5
My Boyfriend's Back
plot: While trying to get up the courage to ask out the girl he's in love with, Johnny Dingle gets shot when a robbery goes wrong. Seeing him bleeding to death, the girl agrees to go with him to the prom. Three days later, after his funeral, Johnny rises from his grave not aware he's really dead, with only one thing on his mind, getting to the prom on time. He's warned that if he leaves the graveyard he'll start to decompose but doesn't believe the cemetery guard. Before long, Johnny finds himself fighting not just the usual teenaged fears, but the urge to eat the flesh of the living.
This is the 1993 comedy starring Andrew Lowery and Traci Lind
This is a very slapstick, goofy over the top movie that never really got the cult status it could have. Very much a product of it's generation, it's comedy factor sanitizes it to the point of almost being too tongue in cheek.
I haven't watched this in twenty years, and honestly had forgotten how quick some of the one liners are, such as Johnny's dad saying "Your mother and I, and the ambulance driver and the embalmer were all pretty much convinced you were dead" or his mother having gotten him a dead body to eat; "I got it at the morgue. They were practically giving them away."
This movie almost; should have taken itself a bit more seriously. I do however love the nod to Frankenstein, with the insane doctor looking out his apartment building window down at the angry mob of townspeople, as they are demanding the zombie/the dead kid with torches. The angle that it is shot makes it nearly black and white, with the dark skyline giving away to the idea of the castle on the hill.
Okay, and I have to say it...the list of actors in this that have done vampire films include the two leads Lowery (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) Lind (Fright Night 2) Edward Herrmann (Lost Boys, Here Comes the Munsters {yeah Herrmann played Herman})
The big theme that gets the most notice is the metaphor of teenaged sexual tension, but the bigger theme is prejudice in all forms.

13 Days of Hallowe'en Day 4
Elvira's Haunted Hills
plot: While traveling through Europe, Elvira and her trusty servant, find themselves trapped in the castle Hellsubus. Strange things begin to happen as the two interact with the Hellsubus family, along with Dr. Bradley-Bradley. Things get even weirder for Elvira when she discovers she's the spitting image of the long dead wife of the crazed Hellsubus.
This is a 2001 comedy starring Elvira and Richard O'Brien.
This is pretty much a spoof on all the old horror films of the 1960's and 1970's, giving much of it's plot to Edgar Allen Poe's Fall of the House of Usher and Pit and the Pendulum.
The idea of a classic ghost story was a good one, but it got a bit lost in translation with a few of the gags, like when Lady Hellsubus coughs up a lung; or the dancing scene that really feels out of place.
Given the material, this should have been better then it is. Though I do get a kick out of this whenever I watch it, for me it just doesn't hold up as well as the original Mistress of the Dark, film does.

13 Days of Hallowe'en Day 3
And the last recipe inspired by the movie Elvira Mistress of the Dark... inspired by the scene in the beginning of the film, where Elvira learns about the inheritance after having just quit her job. She's having a conversation with her manager -
"Forget it Manny, I'm never working for that sleazeball again! I'll just have to find another sleazeball."
Yes, I made a sleazeball...
2 packages of cream cheese softened
1 cup shredded cheese (your choice)
1 chopped jalapeno (or to your taste)
pinch salt
blend the cream cheese till smooth,
then slowly add your shredded cheese (I used a mix of cheddar, mozzarella and montery jack) and jalapeno,
mix well,
add the pinch of salt, continue to blend till smooth
chill for about 2 hours or until mixture is cold enough to be handled and formed into a ball
This can then be rolled into any number of optional toppings, like nuts, or dill or more peppers etc. I left mine just the way it was, because...well I completely spaced out and forgot to add the red pepper flakes. I know, totally batty of me right?
There are movies coming this week, I promise it's not all recipes. Though, to be honest, I was hoping to have a full week of recipes and arts/crafts, but a few of the projects just didn't come together for me. I've got another Elvira post coming at you then we move into zombies...

13 Days of Hallowe'en Day 2
My lovely Spudguns! it's Elvira week; and this is another of the recipes inspired by a scene from the 1988 movie Elvira Mistress of the Dark ... the picnic scene and the Tic Tac Pie.
Okay, so here's the screen shot from the movie and their version of the pie.
I have to admit, that outside of this movie, I'd never heard of tic tac pie before. I thought it was something thought up just for Elvira Mistress of the Dark. Which, it might have been? And we are talking almost 30 years ago!
Anyways, when I decided to do a recipe inspired by the infamous pie, I began looking around to see if there were any recipes for it.
What I found was raw pudding, heaps of marshmallows and tic tacs, I almost backed off.
If you've been reading me or talking to me at all over the last few years, you know that marshmallows are NOT vegan/vegetarian friendly. So none for me thanks. (Ironically, tic tacs are considered vegetarian as they are mostly sugar and salt)
Then I started looking at other kinds of pies, which led me to cake recipes; and it pretty much smacked me upside the head. The classic no-bake cheesecake. Which fit perfectly, given the gimmick in the movie is that the character does not bake the pie.
So for the crust, I used pre-crumbled graham cracker crumbs. and butter.
The recipe on the back of the bag called for 1 and 1/4 cup of the crumbs, but my pie plate was a bit larger so I had closer to 2 cups of the crumbs.
1/4 cup of the butter melted. Again, because my pie plate is just a little larger, I added an extra tablespoon of the butter.
Mix well, and flatten out into pie plate.
CHILL for 2 hours.
Filling
1 package cream cheese softened
1/2 cup icing sugar
1 can pineapple chunks
500ml of Cool Whip
mixing the cream cheese and sugar until smooth, then fold in the cool whip.
Drain the pineapple, adding the pieces to the mix,
make sure to mix it well.
pour into the crust, and chill for 3 hours.
I've got another recipe coming up, inspired by the movie Elvira Mistress of the Dark, which should have you rolling in the aisles.

13 days of Hallowe'en
It's that time of year again, when the crispness of the leaves melts in the air with the scent of pumpkin pie spice and hot apple cider. When horror movies go on sale at the store, and late night television has movie marathons of classic and not so classic films filled with vampires, witches, werewolves and zombies. And of course, candy! Lots and lots of candy appears out of nowhere tempting us to devour it in preparation for the coming hibernation season many of us prefer.
And I'm jumping into this with #26 of What that Movie Inspired Me to Do.
This is a DO-OVER of my most popular post in the series...the Elvira Mistress of the Dark Adraka Kozorol...
For anyone who doesn't know what I'm talking about, there is a scene in the 1988 movie where Elvira makes dinner for her date from what she believes is a recipe book, but is really a spell book; and ends up conjuring a demon. (I covered the movie on Day 49 of year one)
I've been thinking about this for a really long time, and you know what? I'm so not happy with the ones I made way way way back in year one of the blog. Pretty bad, like really who want's to eat that? bad!
So, here's my updated much needed improved version of the whole thing.
We'll start with a link to the original I did back in 2012...(here) ooohhh, aaahhh, umm...
Now that that is out of the way....The 2015 much needed much improved version.
I only did one casserole this time around, a Taco Casserole.
Ingredients
pasta
tomato paste
veggie ground round
onion
sloppy joe spice
milk
water
shredded cheese (I used a mix of cheddar/mozzarella/monterey jack with jalapeno)
tortilla chips
sour cream
Boil pasta in salt water for 3 minutes, drain MOST BUT NOT ALL of the water,
add pasta to casserole dish,
chop or slice onion to your liking, adding it to the dish,
add veggie ground round and sloppy joe spice,
mix together,
add tomato paste and milk, mixing again,
break up tortilla chips, sprinkling them on top, then layering cheese.
Bake at 350degrees for 25-30 minutes depending on your oven.
Top with sour cream
And...I decided to make Elvira week part of my "13 Days of Hallowe'en". So, I'll be back over the course of the week to give you more inspirations inspired by the movie Elvira Mistress of the Dark, before getting into the rest of the Hallowe'en spirit.

Rolf's Kingdom
Dagan paced back and forth snarling, his shoulders slouched, neck slightly forward. Running his hand through his hair first to fix it slicking it back, then grabbing a fistful of it in frustration. "No! No! You can not tell me that she got..." he turned practically stabbing Reuben in the chest with his finger. "No!" he shook his head. "Dracula yeah, I get it, hell I expect it! But that..." he crossed his arms then uncrossed them pointing dramatically towards the door of the library. "I want a damn blood test! There's no way she would ever...he's not her type."
"He's totally her type." Reuben said calmly as he ran his hand over his beard.
"Blood type maybe. I know she had to feed somehow right? I mean, we all know what a blood slut for wolf she is, but there's no way she'd ever hook up with that...that...Maxwell." he was screaming at this point, his eyes having shifted to the amber-grey of the wolf.
"Look, all I know for sure is that Loki used Maxwell's dna, along with a few other alphas, and she had a litter. And survived it." Reuben commented closing his chocolate brown puppy dog eyes for a brief second, his long lashes delicately brushing his cheek. "Then the original Seer came into the picture and all bets were off." he let out a deep sigh slapping his hand on his buddy's shoulder. "Went berserk."
"Ah-ha!" Dagan turned on his heels at lightening speed. "And that's why I'm telling you she never let this slime ball in!"
"Dagan man." Rolf said from his position a few feet away as he leaned against the library desk. "They had gotten close before we ever left Vlad's camp. And that's eight years ago."
The auburn haired werewolf licked his lips staring at the taller male. "No. See I know for a fact you're wrong. Cause I was there." he jabbed his thumb in his own chest as he tilted towards Rolf. "When I went through that time portal. When that old nun witch chicky sent me back to find her." he held up the six sided ring he'd been clasping; the ring Loki had given our heroine eight years before. "See, I took this off the witch when I was back there."
"What do you mean witch?" Rolf asked.
"The crazy woman who was glamoured up to the hilt pretending to be my...our pain in the ass."
"Whoa, pretending to be Nos?" Reuben replied spreading his fingers wide as he raised his hand again towards Dagan. "Who in their right mind would want to pretend to be Nos?"
"Yeah." he shrugged. "That's the thing, she wasn't in her right mind. Or her left for that matter. She kidnapped the bat-girl and kept her in an old well for four years."
"How?" Rolf asked flicking his hair out of his face. "How is it possible to pretend to be her around a group of werewolves?"
"Well..." Dagan shrugged again, rolling his eyes. "Magick. She captured her, kept her in a well draining her blood so that she could drink it and glamour, and no one knew. The whole time till I got there. She admitted she killed everyone that...that...thing..." he pointed again angrily towards the door.
"Maxwell." Rolf said clearing his throat.
"Whatever. Was connected to."
"Okay but why?" Reuben asked.
"The original Seer. She wanted him for herself. Was part of his coven and got all bunny killer...no offense." he nodded towards Reuben. "She got all bunny killer and decided to take her place."
"So this was because The original Seer was in love with Nosferatu?" Rolf commented. Snorting he grinned. "You lost your chance man."
Dagan screwing up his nose like he smelled something bad. Moving a few feet he raised a hand as if dismissing them, crossing the room to where Damen was. Leaning over to look at what the eight year old was drawing, he scratched at his jaw. "That you?" he asked pointing to the smallest stick figure in the drawing. The little boy nodded not bothering to look up from his colouring. "And that's Rolf?" the boy nodded again writing the word uncle; under the largest of the stick figures. "So this must be Reuben. Then who's those two there?" the male asked pointing to the far side of the page. The eight year old stuck his tongue out of his mouth as if panting, as he wrote the word daddy; under the one stick figure, and mommy; under the other adding a triangle for her skirt. "Huh." Dagan grunted running his own tongue over his teeth taking a free crayon from the pile to the kid's left. "You need to make her bigger." he held up his hands in front of the kid's face. "this way I mean." then added a larger triangle to the skirt.
"So where is she then? If you were sent back through a time portal to save her why isn't she here?" Rolf asked standing.
"Loki beat me to it." Dagan mumbled as he stood up again rumpling the kid's hair. "I killed the witch found the well but she'd already been saved by Loki." he remarked leaning back at the waist hands up in the air. "Probably off sticking his orbs into her again for another round of puppies." he snarled.
The doors to the library opened causing them all to turn to look as Harker walked into the room a large mug of coffee in hand.
"Dagan, what are you doing here?" he seemed exhausted and slightly disheveled. "What did I miss?"

Out of Time
The Scrapbook Conspiracy
Our heroine padded around the apartment barefoot, adjusting finally to the temperature of being out of the old damp well. Too bad for her she couldn't sleep. Not bothering to turn on any of the lights, as her sensitive banshee-werewolf eyes seemed to hurt more with the fluorescent lights then they did in daylight, she made her way into the kitchen. Opening the fridge, she let out a sigh feeling suddenly like a bored teenager. Which was ironic, given she was already middle aged by the time she had been turned a decade before. Grabbing the container of milk, she decided to make herself a hot chocolate. It seemed appropriate enough, and it was something she found herself really missing since being held captive for the last four years. Opening and closing the drawers, she looked for a spoon, that's when her hand brushed against something. Looking closer, our heroine saw that Loki had stashed a large stack of papers in the back of the drawer. Reading through them, she discovered they were all newspaper clippings about unsolved murders that had been happening recently in the area.
Her breath caught in her throat as she read them, each more detailed than the other. To the average reader, they seemed like animal attacks, but to her she knew them for what they were. A werewolf feeding.
"Don't!" our heroine screamed raising her hand outward not bothering to look. "Careful, I just sorted that." she gestured with the one hand towards Loki a few hours later, as he shimmered into the living room of the apartment, landing in the middle of what looked like a crazed art project.
"Uh Nos..." he raised an eyebrow at her feeling her flinch at hearing someone other then Reuben address her by that endearment. "....feratu. What's going on?" the dark haired god asked taking an exaggerated step over half the pile of papers to his left. "Did the filing cabinet blow up?"
"Sure if you need it to have." she was hunched over the kitchen table arranging small bits of paper into what looked like a large book. Crossing to where she was, Loki leaned over her shoulder his jaw tightened in worry. "You lied to me."
"Possibly. Why is my apartment a mess?" Saying nothing she shoved a photocopy into his face. Grabbing it from her, he let out a sigh of frustration. "Yeah so?"
"Why do you have news clippings of a string of animal attacks?" she air quoted the last half of the sentence. "You told me magick was different here. Told me that I wouldn't have to worry about the whole full moon ritual and the pack's desire for alpha status or being claimed and yet..." she held up another fistful of the newspaper clippings turning towards him. "Is that why you brought me here? Instead of just letting me be with Vlad or whatever? Because there is a werewolf running around? Cause I'm not going down that highway ever again. And the only reason I haven't asked you to remove my werewolfness is because of Rolf." she turned back to the project in front of her not willing to let Loki know just how connected she was still to her adopted twin. Unwilling to talk about the fact she still had flashes of his life, seeing things through his eyes, catching parts of his dreams. Even in a completely different realm of reality, she was connected to the others. To her pack. Better or worse.
"You actually weren't suppose to find out about him. That's why I said I needed to keep an eye on you." he shrugged scratching the back of his neck. "Believe it or not, this is still the safest place for you. And yes, sometimes things happen and we relocate a supernatural being to another reality. In this case...he doesn't even know who he is or what he is. Which is why I brought you here because I need to be here watching him closely." Loki screwed up his face in a semi-pout then bit his bottom lip. "Is that glitter?"
"Yeah it's suppose to represent fairy dust." she commented picking up a glue stick fiddling with it. "I raided the supply closet when I went down to the office to photocopy. I was bored."
"You couldn't just keep a file folder? You had to turn it into..." he picked up the large scrapbook flipping through it. "You found this in the office?"
"Yeah, your last secretary had it in her desk drawer. I figured she wouldn't mind me refitting it, given you said she was dead and all." she had a pink pipecleaner in hand twirling it. "That and my vampire binder is falling apart.Over a decade old, seen better days."
"Yeah I thought you were going to cry when I walked by your room and saw you duct taping it like your life depended on it." the dark haired god could not wrap his head around why she had bothered to create the scrapbook, until he noticed The Seer's spellbook was open on the table beside them. The page in the spellbook revealed a family tree, much like the one our heroine had drawn on the latest page of the scrapbook. This was intended to at some point be passed on. Slamming the book closed he dropped it back on the table turning towards the counter. Grabbing himself a glass, he poured enough bourbon to fill it.

Out of Time
The Scrapbook Conspiracy
Food n Flix October
This month's Food n Flix selection is Hocus Pocus and being hosted by The Lawyer's Cookbook.
plot: On Hallowe'en night, a teenaged boy, his younger sister and his girlfriend accidentally cast a spell that brings back the ghosts of three witch's who have till sunrise to steal the souls of all the children in the neighbourhood, in order to live forever.
This is the 1993 comedy starring Bette Midler and Sarah Jessica Parker.
Notes- "chocolate cake", goat, chicken, lamb, "mud pie", "ginger bread", "swamp juice", BBQ, pumpkin, Hallowe'en candy, apple cider, party punch, "graveyard cookies", apples, "ice" (the one character has the word ice shaved into his hair), buffet, lollis, "lady fingers" (dead man's toes didn't sound appealing), "rice crispies", cough drops, dumplings, shish-kabobs, "apple pie", "voodoo doll cookies", scorpion pie, "roadkill", cheesies, popcorn, chocolate bars, "I put a spell on you cupcakes", "Divine sandwiches"(Bette Midler is almost always in the middle), lobster, jello mold, toast, "salted caramel" (they use pounds of salt to keep the witches/spirits away), "monster mash",
You will see, my list has more of my sidebars of things that popped into my head then actual food. There's more Hallowe'en candy then anything in this movie. My gut reaction was a cake decorated to look like a spell book...but my ability to decorate food is severely lacking as my hand eye coordination is non-existent.
I actually had a really difficult time coming up with something for this. I changed my mind five times before finally settling. (I wanted to use ice somehow, and I wanted to figure out how to make a scorpion pie)
I knew I wanted to incorporate some Hallowe'en candy, but wasn't completely sure how?
I ended up having to go back and re-watch it again a few times.
Of course, I was overthinking it. Time to simplify it to the bare bones. Besides the scenes with Hallowe'en candy; you had scenes with chocolate bars. And what's simpler then chocolate brownies?
This was pretty much inspired by one thing, when Sarah Jessica Parker is jumping up and down saying "Amuck, amuck, amuck, amuck"
Broomstick in Amuck Brownies
1/2 cup butter softened
1 cup sugar
3 Tablespoon coco powder plus 1 1/2 teaspoon oil
2 eggs
1/2 cup flour
handful of broken up pretzels
handful of chocolate crispy treats
mix
bake at 350degrees till done.
The pretzels (the broomsticks), give it a bit of a crunch and hint of saltiness, (remember all the salt the kids use to keep the witches away) plus, it's a nice alternative to walnuts for anyone who might have an allergy.
Although I did buy myself a copy of the dvd few years ago during October season (yes it's a season here not a month) it got forgotten. And I'm ashamed to say, when I went hunting through my collection the other week for it to re-watch, the plastic shrink wrap was still on it.

Coffee Talk October 1st 2015
Morning! my lovely Spudguns! Just thought I'd run in for a few seconds and remind you all that it's the first of the month, which means, time to shoot out a small shout out for the Food n Flix group. This month's selection is Hocus Pocus, and is being hosted by Lawstudent's Cookbook.
Always good to see someone who likes Hallowe'en as much as me. But then again, for me everyday is Hallowe'en.
And to remind you of that, I'll have my 13 Days of Hallowe'en later in the month, kick off date being the 19th if I did my math right. As I have said a few times in the last couple of weeks, things will be slow moving on this blog until then.
And don't forget, December kicks off year 5 of the blog with the grand return to the 1 movie a day challenge. You know, the original point of the blog.
Okay, yeah that's about it for now. Need a coffee.
