The Nosferatu Adventures S3 p38

The Nosferatu Adventures
page 97, chapter 97

Rolf cleared his throat, letting his hair fall like a curtain over his face, one strong hand pulling Nosferatu backwards by her neck. She found herself in the bathroom, a very disapproving Rolf blocking her from the door.

"Why do you always have to be so hard on him?"

"On Dagan?" the female asked. Rolf grunted casting a glance over his shoulder at the now empty front doorway. Dagan had left again.

"He didn't bite you. But this sire bond, close enough. He's never made another shifter before. You're technically his first." the massive shoulders moved as Rolf adjusted his weight from one foot to the other, casting shadows in the small bathroom. He held a hand up towards her, ducking his chin before pushing his hair back out of his eyes. "Okay, look. This isn't a situation I personally would have gotten into. I would have left you human, but he didn't. He saw something I think, maybe, and just..." Rolf was at a loss then for words. "Anyways, what I'm trying to say is, this isn't easy. For him; for any of us. Leo and Ash both buried their wives, who were human. And my aunt who helped raise me and my brothers, was human too. You're pretty much the only non-human female most any of us has spent more then a few hours at a time around. It changes the rules." he closed his eyes frowning.

Nosferatu could smell the rise in his temperature, could hear his heart beating a little faster, pumping his blood that much harder. Rolf was suddenly nervous. She remembered the young version of him she'd met only hours before, on the other side of the time portal. The shy male who even then seemed to carry the weight of the world on his shoulders. She took a step towards him, resting her palm on his arm. The large male flinched, just as he had in the time portal. Pulling back a centimeter, she squinted as a strange pink shadow seemed to outline his frame.

"You're scared of me." she traced the outline in the air around his head and shoulders.

"What? No I'm not." the pink outline flashed a steel blue before turning white. Rolf's stance changed as he braced himself.

"I have no idea why, but you are. It's all over your aura."

"You can read auras now?" he blinked scratching his forehead.

"So it would seem." she planted both palms on his shoulders, reaching up on her tip toes smiling at him. "I'm not the bad guy. Not going to destroy your family." she whispered standing flat again. Our heroine then squeezed past him, turning in the doorway taking his hand between hers. "What would you be doing if you didn't have to be everyone's big brother? We all make mistakes sweetie, not all of them need to be cleaned up." she shrugged patting his hand. "You don't have to be the grown up all the time."

"You say that like I have an option?" he chuckled. "The man has always been a sword unbending, then you fall into our laps and suddenly he'd forget his head if it wasn't bolted on."  he shook his head slightly, one large ringlet falling over his eyes again.

"God Rolf, not you too?" she dropped his hand moving closer to him, daring to take a sniff of her own. His blood was starting to smell sweet like a spicy ginger the more upset he got. "I can't hurt him. I don't have that kind of power because he does not care about me. I don't understand why you lot all keep thinking Dagan cares? It was cute the first time, but seriously!"

He pulled her back into the tiny bathroom closing the door again in a blur. Leaning one hand on the door to keep it closed, the large male glared down at her, all the humour gone from his face. He let out a slow breath blasting the top of her hair as he did, his eyebrows knitted together in anger. "You can lie to yourself all you want, but don't you dare lie to me! Dagan has been my family for the last thirteen years and I know when he's hurting. You've barely known him...us! for a month. A month!" he spat the last word, his eyes turning to that of the wolf, his nails becoming glass like claws as he dragged his left hand down the corner of the bathroom door, peeling splinters. "I never said you were the bad guy, I know you're not. All I'm saying is be careful." he grabbed her chin, a bruise formed as crimson droplets clung to his nails. "You don't want to end up on the wrong side of my fangs little girl! Unlike that lovesick puppy you've been toying with, there won't be any leftovers when I'm finished snacking on you."

A knock at the bathroom door forced Rolf to end his rant, as he sniffed flicking his hair out of his face, letting go of her's with a violent force. Grabbing the doorknob, he ripped it off it's hinges as he opened it,  Nosferatu falling backwards into Ash.

"Smile time fun hour, I see." Ash said wiping his thumb across her blood stained chin then licking it. "He's just worried about Ripper. That and I think he's a bit jealous too that you've settled in somewhat with your role as den mother." Ash said, rocking side to side, his hands linked behind his neck as he stretched. "Rolf likes being daddy to everyone. Gets a happy fuzzy from it." the older werewolf smirked as he leaned closer to her, his nose pressed tight against her neck, tracing circles on her skin. "We need to talk. I've sent the guys on some errands, but werewolf speed only gives us about a half hour. Unless, they get distracted." he tilted his head resting one very tattooed arm on the wall.

"About?" the female asked, rubbing the rest of the blood from her face.

"Leo's grandson."
