The Nosferatu Adventures
page 36, chapter 36
Dagan pushed himself up to sit on the bed, his elbows on his knees, his head bowed, left hand on the back of his neck. "What do you mean, Uncle Victor thinks she's your mate? You've got better taste then that don't you?" the grin on his face reminded Harker of when they were kids and Dagan had been catching snails.
"I had to tell him something." Harker said scratching his jaw. "She was being held in the basement. You know full well from when we were kids, when someone went to the basement..."
"They never came back alive." his voice dropped. Standing, he reached for his younger brother, grabbing him by the neck, pulling him in for another hug. He sniffed, snarling when he got nothing but a nose full of the other werewolf's scent. "God, why was the Seer in here anyways?" he moved away from Harker, rotating his shoulders as he walked around the room, touching everything. "What am I going to have to do, mark my territory in my own room?"
"Please tell me you're not thinking of pissing on everything."
"Don't be gross." he said licking his hand, then smearing it down the door, rubbing his butt against the walls, his forearm over the furniture, flopping back down on the bed, rolling around on it like a little kid. "Sweat works fine."
"He seems to have grown attached to her. The Seer. The second he laid eyes on her after he transformed, he's barely left her side." Harker replied.
"Which is why..." he was laying on the bed now, his hands behind his skull, one leg crossed over the other. "...I force fed her my blood. Reestablish my authority over her."
Harker snorted as he moved around the room, not sure how to respond. "I thought you didn't like her?"
"I didn't say that." he stuck his tongue out at his brother, rolling his eyes. Sitting up, he shrugged."None of it matters anyways. She was suppose to be a delivery you know, help her get from point A to point B. Should have taken us like an hour total. But, she wasn't where she was suppose to be, she was way off the other side of the desert, which put us hours off course. Then stuff happened, and we got killed a little, were taken by the Queen's men, had some fun killing them, and then you popped up and now..." he raised his hands out to his sides, grinning. "Family reunion." His nose twitched. Breathing deeply Dagan closed his eyes. "Bacon." he moved from the room in a blur, heading in the direction of the kitchen.
He found our heroine moving around the room, completely absorbed in the process of frying bacon and eggs, hovering near the oven where she had a tray of potatoes, slicing onions which she tossed into the pan with the eggs, and sectioning oranges.
Dagan ran his tongue over his teeth, making a clicking noise as he spotted the Seer and Bryon a few feet away. The Seer was sitting at the kitchen table reading a newspaper, while Bryon stood with his arms crossed near the window.
Dagan reached around her, picking a slice of the bacon out of the pan with his bare fingers, stuffing it into his mouth. Chewing, he looked over at his brother who was standing in the doorway of the kitchen. "You can cook!"
"It's eggs and bacon. A trained monkey could do that." she commented. Dagan leaned in sniffing her hair suddenly, his eyes locked on the Seer.
"Yeah, well we don't have a trained monkey we just have you." he replied nodding at her, his eyes wide, lips in a pout.
Bryon excused himself from the group, and headed down the hall towards the east wing of the castle. He made his way to a small door, knocking. It opened a moment later, Victor standing there, a wine glass in hand. Bryon nodded as he entered the room, closing the door behind him.
"And, what did you learn?" Victor asked as he crossed back to a billiards table.
"Dagan and the other werewolf are constantly fighting over the female like she's a piece of meat. It's clearly a territorial thing." Bryon said gesturing towards the door as he moved across the room to pour himself a glass of whiskey. "It's Harker you have to worry about. I've noticed the way he looks at her when he thinks no one is watching."
Victor grunted. "I figured as much when he lied to protect her, saying she was his mate."
"You think he's going to pursue something with her?"
Victor shook his head looking into the depth of his wine glass. "He'll keep his distance for as long as he thinks his brother might be interested. He always did as Dagan wanted him too when they were younger. I haven't seen any evidence of that having changed." he walked then towards the window opening it, as a flash of lightening lit up the sky. "Remarkable isn't it? The sort of birth the elements give to each other." he leaned on the window gazing out at the rain that had started as if it was a lover. "I think we will proceed as planned. But first, we'll have to secure the female's loyalty."
