Top 5 Fav Cartoons from the 80's

Stuck babysitting tonight, which means the cartoons were on. Got me thinking about some of the cartoons we used to watch when we were kids. Odd how so many of them are still in re-runs.  So some of my favourites when I was a kid...

1. The Real Ghostbusters

2. Teen Wolf

3. Darkwing Duck

4.Scooby-Doo

5. Shirt Tales.

I think that Scooby-Doo is a given ever since it first aired, and if you grew up in the 80's then you were sucked in by the cartoon version of movies that you some times weren't allowed to see.

One of these days, I'm going to sit down with a massive bowl of way too sweet sugary rot your gut type cereal, in front of the cartoons and...maybe take a photo for the blog...maybe...maybe for Hallowe'en week or something...if I'm feeling goofy enough...do you think you're brave enough to handle that kind of photoage...yeah that's not even a word...

Year 3 Day 51

movie: Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2
starring: Bill Hader, Anna Faris
genre: Cartoon
year: 2013
format: Shaw Video On Demand

plot: After creating a machine that can turn water into food, a young inventor is hired to find the missing machine and turn it off. Only, the evil mastermind who hired him is just wanting to steal the machine for himself, and use it to create power bars. When they go looking for the machine, they find an entire island made of food with living food creatures.

This is a sequel and based on a book.  I have to say, I liked this film, laughed out loud through most of it.  (I covered the first film way back on Day 7 of the first year)
I'm not sure what to say about a movie about screaming leaks and cheeseburger-spider monsters, and swimming marshmallows...other then it was a cute movie and now all I can think of is how much I want a large veggie burger.

Year 3 Day 50

movie: The Pledge
starring: Jack Nicholson, Aaron Eckhart
genre: Drama, Crime
year: 2001
format: TV edit

plot: on the day of his retirement, a cop gets a murder case of a little girl. After vowing to find her killer, he becomes obsessed with the case, connecting it to two other open ones, believing it to be the work of a serial killer. He then spends the next year and a half of his life proving his theory.

This is based on a book that was based on a made for tv movie from the 1950's.   Okay, the made for tv movie it would seem came first then the re-telling of the book both in 1958/59 timeframe.

I was riveted to this for the first hour. The second hour, not as much. I don't know if that is because of the fact it was a tv edit or if the story just sort of looses itself at that point?
The ending wasn't what I was expecting, so points for thinking outside of the box. I love when a movie has a twist ending.
The creep factor, even for a tv edit, comes not from any kind of gore or gross out, but from the fact that things like this actually happen. Crimes like this unfortunately happen too much.  With that said, there are extremely strong elements of the old fairy tale Little Red Ridding Hood.   (little girls, red dresses, treats and wooded/lake areas, which are the obvious references)

The Nosferatu Adventures S4 p12

The Nosferatu Adventures
page 114, chapter 114

He snarled as the light pierced through the crack in the wall. His hand automatically going to cover his face, protecting his eyes. He'd lost count how many days he'd been there; given up hoping of getting out alive. His stomach hurt, mostly from lack of food, his hands and wrists constantly covered in blood and bruises from trying to dig himself out. The thirst was the worst, driving him insane. Once, he'd even hallucinated Harker coming to rescue him.

Dagan was in hell. Literally. Alone, in a dark space no bigger then a closet carved into solid rock. It had rained only twice, water run down the north wall from the small crack in the rock, enough to drink. Wherever he was, there didn't seem to be any sort of guards. No one checked on him, no one brought food or water in the time he'd been locked away. If it wasn't for the poor unfortunate mouse or garden snake that found its way in once and a rare while, he'd never eat. But mostly the werewolf was abandoned. Forgotten. For Dagan, that was his worst fear come true.

He sat with his back against the south wall, hands over his knees, eyes closed, praying to Loki, to Bacchus, to Odin, to anyone who might hear him. No one ever came.

He hated sleeping. When he closed his eyes, the last few minutes of being on the ship returned to plague him. Of Ares appearing demanding the female. Of him being hit hard by the back of the god's hand like he was nothing. Falling overboard, the freezing water like pins and needles as he plunged into it. Of being attacked by the mermaids as they bit and clawed at him. Their poison choking him as it burned his veins. Of then waking in this hell, not sure how he got there.

He knew he'd been reliving this personal hell for at lest four months by how long his hair and beard had gotten. Four months of emptiness, of starving to death over and over again only to die and wake up hours later, to have the process start over. For the first time ever, he hated being a werewolf. At lest if he had been human, the first death would have been enough. And the space was so cramped, he had been unable to shift. He'd been stuck in his human form the whole time. The wolf in him needed to be allowed to stretch, to hunt. Another thing that was driving him insane.

His skull started to hurt, forcing him to dig his nails into his temples, trying to alleviate the pain. But it was no good. Now the male was hallucinating voices. For some reason, it was the Seer's. Dagan screamed at it to get out. Screamed at it to leave him alone, to let him die in peace. But the voice refused to listen. It kept asking him to describe where he was. Then he hallucinated another voice answering.  The female's. He heard her telling the first hallucination she was still in the hall of doors. He heard her say she was hiding again from Reuben. That they'd crossed paths again in the last few days and he once again ripped her throat out. He heard the hallucination say that Reuben had gotten stronger in the past week. The voices disappeared then, leaving Dagan alone again. A rage coursing through him so much he smashed the back of his skull against the wall till he passed out.

When Dagan opened his eyes again, the moon was casting pale shadows over him, his mouth full of dirt, his skin wet from a fresh layer of snow. He was outside, the brutally cold night air whipping snow around him, a distant howl making his ears reverberate in pain. Blinking, he found himself high on a mountain ridge.

Year 3 Day 49

movie: Silverado
starring: Kevin Kline,  Linda Hunt
genre: Western
year:1985
format: TV edit

plot: After being ambushed by a group of unknown horsemen, Emmett begins a trek towards the town of Silverado where his sister lives, along the way he meets up with a man who was attacked by the same unknown group of horsemen. Emmett has to break his brother out of jail, and help yet another cowboy with ranch stealers. The group find themselves the unlikely heroes of the town, each finding his own version of peace.

A western. Rarely have I seen a Kevin Costner film where he plays anything other then the straight laced hero, but he was the screwball in this film.
I don't know if it was where this was a tv edit or if it was the decade the film was made in, but there were a lot of spots that went to black, the kind you see right before a commercial break only there was none. There was dead air for chunks of this viewing. And it was very distracting for me personally.
I get the feeling this wanted to be a buddy movie, but just never found it's footing.  It was funny enough, the plot was there be it a bit dragged out at times, and the Kevin Kline lead was the most dimensional of the characters.

Didn't love it, didn't hate it.

The Nosferatu Adventures S4 p11

The Nosferatu Adventures
page 113, chapter 113

"He's dead because of you!" Reuben spat the word, blood and saliva flying everywhere, as he raked his hands through his hair. Then he actually spat on her before he leaned over slamming both fists into the stone wall over her head. "He trusted you! We trusted you and you're the reason Dagan's dead! Because you..." he slammed his right fist into the wall again, the sound of bones shattering echoing in both their ears. He pulled his arm away howling in pain, shaking out his fingers. The werewolf moved from her in a blur, before turning back to her, grabbing her by the shoulder dragging her to her feet. "Come here! Why? Huh? Why was Ares there on that ship? Huh? What is so damned important about you?" the werewolf shook the female tossing her across the room, letting out a roar of frustration as he did. Stomping madly to where she was, he grabbed her by the back of her hair dragging her out of the room, no clue where he was going. "He's dead! Dagan is dead because of you! If Ares hadn't been looking for you, Dagan would never have gotten in the way. He'd still be alive! We're getting out of this hell, and when we do, I'm killing you! I'm going to eat your heart then your liver, and then, what's left I'm going to smash into dust!" he threw the female into the right side wall just to hear her bones crack, then drove his elbow into her now healed throat.

She choked, gasping for air as blood poured from the vampire's pale lips. "Dagan's dead?"  She felt her knees go weak at the information. That explained why her heart chakra was over active. Their sire bond was broken. She let a strained sound escape her lips. "No wonder you don't ever want to see me again. You just lost the love of your life..."

"Shut up!" he cracked her in the face with his elbow. Stopping he swore as they had reached a dead end. Turning around the werewolf threw her hard into the corner. Our heroine now was covered in blood, the white dress stained with rapidly drying crimson pools.

"Why wont' you just admit that you loved him?" she pointed at the tall male, spitting a mouthful of blood onto the floor, twice. "It's obvious to everyone Roo."

"What the hell do you know about love?" he moved towards her, blocking her from escaping. He was breathing heavily now, more out of anger then need. The magic mist rolling off him like smoke as his clothes began to disappear then reappear. "We were fine till he claimed you!"

"You were the one who wanted that Reuben. You were the one cheerleading us together every chance you got. Telling me that I belonged to Dagan because of the sire bond, telling us to work out our issues because according to you we flirted just a bit too much. What do I know about love? Nothing." she shrugged smirking. "Nothing but the way you looked at Dagan, the way you always found some reason to touch him, to stand as close to him as you could. You talk about how loyalty and honor and honesty are what make werewolves what they are. So try being honest right now, to me, to yourself. Show some loyalty to your dead love, right now Roo. Honor him by finally telling me what I already know, that you're afraid to say out loud, to yourself!"

"Fine!" he growled, his eyes filled with hate as the amber-grey of the wolf glowed bright. "Yes, okay I loved him. That what you want to hear? You win Nos." he held both arms out to his sides, rocking side to side shifting his weight from one foot to the other. "From the first day. And now he's gone because of you. Because he got in the way when Ares showed up to get you. He's dead, you're still here, and I'm left without him." Reuben leaned over her, stealing more air as he pinned her shoulders to the wall, his rage threatening to knock them both over. "I gave him to you! I gave him to you and you didn't even say thank you! You didn't see what was right in front of your nose. Instead, you ran away like a child. You want me to admit I loved him. I admit it. I loved Dagan." he pounded his fist into the wall once more. "And his loyalty, his honor, his instincts to protect you, got him killed. Protect you." he pointed at her, digging his glass like nail into her cheek drawing more blood. "You, who didn't see it for what it was. Didn't want to understand what a gift I'd sacrificed." the werewolf snarled as he finally moved away from her. "I admit it with every fiber of my being. I loved him. I will always love him!" he growled as he turned and disappeared into the darkness of the hallway at werewolf speed.

Year 3 Day 48

movie: Beauty Shop
starring: Queen Latifah, Andie MacDowell
genre: Comedy
year: 2005
format: TV edit

plot: After quitting her job as a hair stylist at a snobby salon, a single mother opens up her own shop and faces off with her old boss.

This is one of those "I am woman hear me roar" films that I normally detest. I think the best part of this film was the sub-plot of all the women in the shop trying to figure out if their one male co-worker was gay or not?
An okay way to waste a few hours, but nothing I'd pair with ice-cream. (yeah that made no sense to me either)

The Nosferatu Adventures S4 p10

The Nosferatu Adventures
page 112, chapter 112

The clanking sound reverberated all around her, forcing her to cover her ears, a scream threatening to rip from her. Blinking, our heroine found herself able to see in the pitch darkness with ease. Something she was sure as a banshee she hadn't been able to do before. The clanking sound came from the cell door as it swayed in the breeze. The lock seemed to be broken, as she made her way the few feet towards it.
This time a howl of pain did escape her as the flesh on her hand smoked and burned. The cell was made of silver. She could taste the salty copper of blood heavy in the air, the scent causing her to salivate. Carefully, the female existed the cell, touching the edges as little as possible. Her clothes didn't fit, they were hanging off her too much, as she noticed she was dressed not in the outfit she had magic misted for herself earlier, but in a white flowing gown.
Something was wrong, she could feel it. Placing her hands on her stomach she realized that Loki's experiment was still there, just not reacting to anything, and her chest hurt. She brought her left palm up to the middle of her chest where her heart chakra was, feeling the strangeness in her aura. It was like a heat was rising from the spot in waves, and she just wanted to make it stop. She kept pressing her palm against the chakra, checking for a wound, but there was none. The feeling of blood pouring from her chest was just that, a feeling not an actual wound.  Her skull was pounding, as she began to move from the cell deeper into the room.

Nosferatu stopped as she brought both pale hands up to her temples the voice suddenly screaming in her mind.  The Seer had linked telepathically with her again. She was going to have to learn that little trick at some point.

"What happened?" the Seer's voice echoed. She shook her head out of instinct regretting it.

"I don't know. One minute I was at the docks with the others, Rolf blew a handful of fairy dust in my face, and the next I wake up in a cell."

"They were alive when you last saw them?" his voice echoed again bringing tears to her eyes, making her ears pound.

"What do you mean were alive?" panic started to worm it's way through her, tightening at her throat.

"I need to know where you are."

She looked around, not recognizing anything, feeling more and more panicked. "I think it's a basement...no wait, no stairs, doors lots and lots of doors." she stumbled towards the nearest one, her hand delicately caressing one of the carvings. "They all seem to have the image of a tree on them."

"Really not helpful." the Seer's voice seemed to be getting stronger, which forced her to double over in pain, her jaw bones shaking. She breathed in deeply to calm herself, catching a familiar scent. Another sniff, and she found herself turning right down another hallway following her nose.

There in the far corner was another cell, this time locked. Running towards it, our heroine let out a sound of relief when she saw who was inside it.

"Oh god Reuben!" she moved towards him, careful not to touch the silver bars.  The werewolf blinked as he leaped towards her, his one arm reaching for her violently, growling. He was half turned, his eyes the amber-grey of the wolf, his fangs sharp exposed dripping with saliva and foam, his nails inch long glass like claws. He risked burning his hands as he grabbed the bars rattling the cell. Anger poured off of him in waves, giving off a scent that reminded her of burnt charcoal.

The Seer's voice was still echoing in her head, as he told her a spell to unlock the cell. She held her hands apart just an inch, chanting as a small orb the size of a plum appeared between her palms then exploded in a bright light of  electricity. The lock on the cell shattered, falling to the floor as the female found herself hurdled across the length of the room, all the breath squashed out of her.

Reuben had charged her, sending them both crashing into the solid stone walls. His fangs ripping a large chunk out of her neck, blood filling his mouth, his throat as he severed her vocal cords for a moment, keeping her from screaming. He stood back, wiping his hand over his mouth, the blood and saliva staining his beard as he then crouched down in front of her as she slumped to the floor.

"Don't ever talk to me again."

The Nosferatu Adventures
page 111, chapter 111

The Seer stopped walking, turning towards the left, to stare out over the water. Ripples began to move across it, a large mass rising from the depths. A water nymph appeared, her hair plastered to her face and shoulders.

"Turn back sidhe. Your cause is useless."

"No I really don't think I will." he said titling his head closing his eyes.

The nymph's own eyes were like that of a  fish as she blinked, her mouth opening slightly to reveal sharp rows of tiny teeth. The werewolf saw gills on the sides of her neck as she breathed then. Holding out her hand, she exposed a sharp object. On closer inspection, he saw it was a werewolf fang.

"Your alpha is dead. Your pack destroyed. Your cause pointless."  she hissed the last part of the word pointless. The Seer smiled turning to look behind him as if searching for someone to compare notes with.

"Um...I just don't believe you." he shrugged. The nymph placed the fang into his hand.

"Bacchus told me to find this as proof. See for yourself with your own mind." her tone was like soft wind chimes.

"First off, why would Bacchus send you? And second, why would he pick a water nymph?" he held the fang tight in his left hand, waiting for some sort of vision, as there was no scent left on the fang from having been in the water. He sighed, about to toss it, when the vision dropped him to his knees. Blinded by the pain as it threatened to rip his skull apart he saw what she said to be true.

Dagan was indeed dead.

He had been tossed overboard by a male who reminded the Seer of an angel with large ram like horns. Ares. The god Ares had removed Dagan from the ship and for whatever reason, trashed his ass.
He saw as Dagan hit the freezing water, sinking farther down into the depths, being ripped to pieces by mermaids, their poison burning him from the inside out.  Explained why a water nymph was asked to find any remains.

The Seer roared as he got control of himself, saliva dripping from his lips, his eyes the amber-grey of the wolf.  "Why didn't I feel it? When he died? I should have felt the death of the pack's alpha. We all should have. The connection broken."

"Ares removed the bloodline. He killed your sire. Killed the tall one too." the nymph smiled again, her skin glittering like scales.

The Seer shook his head as he made it to his feet again. "Why would Bacchus have you deliver this message?"

"He's promised to make whoever found proof of the werewolf's death into one of his Bacchae. So I jumped at the chance. Searched the ocean floor for a full night looking."

"Why would he kill the pack?" there was just no making sense of what he was being told. He should have sensed the loss of the alpha, Ash and Leo would have as well. He cracked his neck, snarling. If it had happened last night, before he set out for his quest, himself and the others would have known. They would have felt the loss of the rest of the pack.

"They angered him. Kept the female hidden from him. Bacchus took her, severing the pact he had with Loki. Killed Loki's offspring." she hissed again on the last sentence, her eyes flicking.

"See, now I know that you're lying, because Loki wouldn't sit back and just let that happen." he pointed at her, his anger getting the better of him, as he wiped the back of his hand across his mouth.

"Believe what you must. But Ares didn't take too kindly to loosing his intended warrior to Bacchus and Loki. The female was supposed to have been just a bargaining chip. But Loki got greedy." she turned then and walked back into the water. "You have no reason to continue on your path young sidhe. Turn back while you still have your head."

Year 3 Day 47

movie: R.I.P.D.
starring: Ryan Reynolds, Jeff Bridges
genre: Sci-fi
year:2013
format: Shaw Video On Demand

plot: After a cop gets killed by his partner, he is recruited as part of a supernatural police force.

So this is based on the comic book.

I liked it. I thought it was funny, sort of like MIB meets Supernatural. I thought that Bridges and Reynolds made a pretty spiffy team, they nailed the humour in this buddy cop story.
I know it got bad reviews from a lot of people, but I could totally see it being given a sequel.
I liked the touch of the charm bracelet as a means for the one villain to hide his true self, which is right out of folklore.

What did I learn? Not everyone or everything is their surface.

Year 3 Day 46

movie: Immortal Instruments City of Bones
starring: Aidan Turner, Kevin Durand
genre: Fantasy
year: 2013
format: Shaw Video On Demand

plot: A young girl learns that she is a supernatural creature after her mother is kidnapped. As she tries to rescue her, she learns about her past, her abilities, and what is really at stake.

Made in Canada, based on a series of books, British actors, and Kevin Durand. Bonus, it's got vampires, werewolves and witches. You know it's on my list of things to do/see.

I've gone back and forth this year in regards to this franchise in general. When I first saw a trailer for it about a year ago, I was interested. When I picked up the first book in the series, I was disappointed, but after seeing this film, all I can say is I can't wait for the next one and I need to finish reading the book series now. (I haven't finished the first book yet, I think I'm on chapter three)

Few months back, when I was talking to fans of the franchise, just before the movie came out, all I heard was "it's got Jamie Campbell Bower."   I had to look him up. Ends up he's in half the Twilight films and Anonymous. (Ah yes, the Young Earl of Oxford)

I'm surprised with some of the storyline, that it was geared for younger audiences. Just the fact they had a theme that hinted at a incestuous relationship between two of the main characters. The sub-plot is given as a rumour that is explained then ignored. So you're left to decide yourself as the viewer if the two main characters were lied to about being siblings.
I found that ironic, given Bower played a character in Anonymous that has an incestuous relationship as well. Then again, 90% of vampire/werewolf stories have an element of that in their plots...

What did I learn?  Not to shove off the genre of Young Adult fiction so easily, as there are some gems in the mix.  And "there's a rune for that."

Year 3 Day 45

movie: My Super Ex-Girlfriend
starring: Uma Thurman, Luke Wilson
genre: Comedy
year: 2006
format: TV edit

plot: An average guy starts dating a superhero after he helps her on a bus, only to break up with her because of her jealousy. Soon, she makes his life a living hell. Meanwhile, an evil genius is out to destroy her.

This has a very comic book feel to it, one of those types of movies that should be watched when you're wanting to get over a break up. Some of the revenge scenes are so off the charts slapstick, but all of them carry a thread of truth.  Like throwing the shark into the new girlfriend's bed, or breaking the ceiling in the main character's house, and destroying his car.  Things that most people have dreamed about but have better sense to not try. Not that tossing a shark is really doable.
In a way, it's one of those typical romantic comedies, where everyone pairs off with the person of their dreams.

This movie had it's moments where I laughed out loud, and even nodded with the idea of some of the revenge scenes.

What did I learn? No matter how important, everyone has a weakness.

The Nosferatu Adventures S4 p8

The Nosferatu Adventures
page 110, chapter 110

The Forest...

The Seer cleared his throat as he sat up, the hay sticking to his hair. Ducking his face, he ran his hands through the dark waves, sighing as he pulled his right hand away with the pieces of hay. Magic misting a pair of grey pajama bottoms and a t-shirt, he cleared his throat again twice, but there wasn't any response from his latest conquest. Tapping her shoulder he leaned over her to retrieve the leather bag that was propped up on the hay stack. "Oh, you're dead." straining an awkward breath through his teeth, the Seer burped as he stood.
For once he hadn't meant to kill his conquest. He had planned on feeding just enough to keep himself alive, but since becoming a werewolf, the Seer had been finding it harder and harder to do that. It was one of the few drawbacks to his new found lycanthropy. The fact his metabolism burned through energy at nearly triple the rate it used to when he was just half sidhe half human; meant he needed to feed more often on sexual energy. Thus, more dead bodies.

He exited the barn, stretching, his breath a grey cloud of vapors as it hit the night air. His ears twitched with the sound of someone off in the distance, the scent of  something invading his nose. The dark haired male didn't bother to investigate but continued on his way through the farm and back to the main path. It didn't take him more then a few minutes with his werewolf speed to cross the five miles to the edge of the latest village. The smell seemed to get worse the closer he got to the crossroads, reminding him of tar and leftover wilted lettuce.

Unfortunately there was more then a few road blocks waiting once he got there. "Uh man, I don't believe this." he whispered as he let his chin drop to rest on his chest, his left hand covering his eyes. The Seer found himself  knee deep in the middle of a goblin's camp. "That explains the smell." he let out a grunt that was more human then animal as he instantly went into overdrive with his best too charming to be real smile.

The goblins were almost as tall has him, which for goblins meant one thing, they were descendants of the Bilarch clan. Half goblin half human. Didn't change the fact they had green slimy skin, reptilian eyes, smelled like the sewers they normally lived in, and boney little fingers that carried a poisonous spike on their thumbs. The Seer dodged to the left when the one who must have been the leader leaped towards him, stabbing at the air.
Mucus seemed to drip from it's ears as it examined him. Most likely trying to decide if he was worth trying to kill for dinner.  The creature held out his hand palm up squinting at him.

"You want to disrupt my sleeping quarters it'll cost you. Five, Six, no Seven coins." he stabbed at the air again, pointing to the leather bag. "Unless you've got something you want to trade?"

The Seer made a dismissive gesture with his hand, then began to pat himself down expressing the fact he did not have any pockets. "Fresh out of stuff. Sorry."  he was doing his best not to growl. If the goblins thought for a second he was anything other then human, they would have attacked him. And unfortunately, their poison was deadly to sidhes.
He knew the stories about how a goblin traded land with a sidhe hundreds of years ago for a glamour spell that was used to hide his true form, in order to seduce and mate with a human he'd become obsessed with.  The spell had been handed down through the Bilarch family line for the last few generations, allowing every so often for a goblin to trick a human into bed.

There were at lest eight goblins standing before the Seer, which meant that at lest eight poor unfortunate souls had been tricked just in the last two decades.

The goblin sniffed him, his tiny button nose working madly, moving like a bunny's. "You've got meat in your bag." he reached for the leather bag that was flung over the Seer's shoulder.

"No. You're smelling the bag. It's leather."

The goblin didn't believe him, his one eye wide while the other was squinted shut. "Ten coins." he held out his hand again.  Sighing, the Seer reached into the leather bag and found his coin purse, dumping out half.  He handed the coins to the goblin and continued to make his way north. "Thank you. While you're away from your home, I'm going to follow your scent and rape and eat your sister, your mother and maybe even your wife and grandmother." the goblin gave a cackle.
The Seer stopped dead in his tracks his fangs suddenly exposed, his eyes flashing the amber-grey of the wolf. Cracking his neck and rotating his shoulders, he forced himself to continue on past the vile creatures. The werewolf in him wanted to slaughter them all for the very thought of the comment, but the sidhe part of him knew one taste of their flesh or blood, one scratch of the goblin's nails or teeth and it would be a worse poison then even silver was to him.
He made it about a half mile away, then turned to face the way he'd come. Opening both hands, the Seer tilted his head back and chanted. A large purple bubble appeared between his palms, as lightening crashed.  With one push, he sent an energy orb back in the direction where the goblin camp was.

The screams filled the air causing his ears to twitch, as the smell of burnt flesh and rotting hair hung suddenly heavy in the air.

format: TV edit

plot: Two life long friends, one who's become a priest the other a rabbi, reunite with a girl they were friends with when they were children. Over the course of a few months, they both realize how much they care for her, and when she starts a romantic relationship with the one, their bond as a group unravels.

Yet another Ben Stiller film, the tv stations must have stock in his movies or something.  This was one of the better movies I've seen in the last few weeks.  Witty, sweet, and ironically heartfelt.

On the surface this is a buddy film/romantic comedy, but it's about we perceive ourselves and the roles smaller communities place us in.  Two of the main characters, Stiller and Edward Norton, spend a good chunk of the film trying to show just how similar all religions are, pointing out the difference between faith (spirituality) and religion.(yes, I said the difference between having faith/spiritual belief and following a religion)  The whole time, dealing with their own values and self perceptions in regards to their faith and love lives.  The Stiller character hiding his relationship because he doesn't think the stigma of dating a non-Jewish woman will sit well with his family and congregation. While, the Norton character is suppressing his own feelings because he believes the personal sacrifice is the only way he can truly live up to his calling in the Catholic religion.

What did I learn?  You can never know what tomorrow will bring.

There is a line in the film that reflects that, when an older priest comments about you know you've made the right choice when you continue to fall in love with that choice over and over again.

Year 3 Day 43

movie: Open Range
starring: Kevin Costner, Robert Duvall
genre: Western
year:2003
format: TV edit

plot:  a group of open range cattlemen seek justice for one of their men who was killed in a small town. They soon find themselves up against the corrupt locals. The sheriff wants their cattle for himself, and is willing to resort to any means necessary.

I was more interested in the supporting cast, (Kim Coates, Ian Tracey, Julian Richings) then anything else.  I found this film to be a bit on the dry side, without much going on till the last fifteen minutes.
I understand having to build the foundations for the characters and why they interact, but what normally would be an introduction to the film seemed to go until the midway mark.

Which works great for books but not so much for movies.

The characters also didn't seem to have much character to them. Half of them could have been replaced by cardboard cutouts and no one would have noticed the difference.

Year 3 Day 42

movie: My Best Friend's Girl
starring: Dane Cook, Kate Hudson
genre: Comedy, Romantic
year: 2008
format: TV edit

plot: After being dumped by his girlfriend, a guy hires his buddy Tank to take the ex on a date from hell in hopes she'll realize she made a mistake. Only, they end up being perfect for each other, and Tank has to deal with hiding it from his buddy and his own true feelings.

This is like the best and worst of any romantic comedy in the last thirty years. Kate Hudson is the hands down queen of the romantic comedy since Meg Ryan, and a lot of the stuff she brings to the table in this film she's done before in other movies. It's almost like the reverse of her  2003 film How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days.
I would love to say there is a twist ending, but sadly there isn't. This film plays out just as you expect, but with a lot more crudity then the average romantic comedy.
There were a few moments where I laughed out loud, but this isn't something I would sit through again.

What did I learn?  I've dated way too many Tanks in my life.

Coffee Talk Jan 19th 2014

Vampires, books, movies based on those books.
That's what's on my mind this morning. Specifically, Night Watch by Sergei Lukyanenko.  I've mentioned the series of books/movies a couple of times in the last few years.  With the fifth installment of the book series (New Watch) hitting Canadian and American shelves this spring, (yes I realize it's been in print in other countries for a couple of years already)  I've dug my copies of 1-4 (Night Watch, Day Watch, Twilight Watch, Last Watch) out of my never ending to read pile; and am attempting to read them.

This is book one in the series. And it's not shy on length.  489 pages just in book one.

Why am I bringing this up this morning you my Spudguns! (haven't called anyone that in a long time) might be thinking?  I felt the strange desire to add something to the blog; with a picture, and I'm sort of stuck at the moment on the next installment of Nosferatu Adventures. (Dagan is just sitting there in my brain snarling. Got to love it when a character takes root in your subconscious)

I'm just starting this book, but consider this post an unofficial-official invitation to doing some sort of book club sort of thing.
In other words, yes have some. If you're up for the challenge of reading this series with me, or have already read them, then let's turn this post into a bit of a discussion on the books. Otherwise, I'll just randomly be back over the course of the next few months to talk about each book.

I know I've mentioned the movie versions of books one and two in my top 5 lists a few times,  and it would be nice to see how they differ from the books.

Well, I see everyone's coffee is getting cold, so till later...

Year 3 Day 41

movie: Stepford Wives
starring: Nicole Kidman, Bette Midler
genre: Sci-fi, Comedy
year: 2004
format: TV edit

plot: After being fired from her job as a high level television producer, Joanne relocates to the suburbs with her family, and starts to notice that all the women dress and act the same. After investigating, she is shocked to learn that they all at one point had high level stressful careers such as herself, and that now they are simply robots.

This is a remake of the 1975 film of the same name, as well as being based on the book by Ira Levin, of the same name.

I have to admit, I've seen this more then a few times, basically whenever it's on tv. It's one of those films that you hate to love and love to hate.
The overall message is garbled, confused and yet; I can never take my eyes from it.  There is a part of human nature that both loathes and is drawn to this stereotype of social sameness. On one hand, you've got an extreme case of abusive repression happening, and on the other hand, you've got a longing to return to a simpler era.

The idea that you could create the perfect mate is appealing, but at what cost?  I'm a big fan of Frankenstein themed stories, and that is one of the main elements that draws me to this particular story.
Would I ever want to have a Stepford Husband?...sure if he looks like wrestler Seth Rollins, that would be hot! No one ever said I was politically correct.

Year 3 Day 40

movie: 28 Days
starring: Sandra Bullock, Elizabeth Perkins
genre: Drama
year: 2000
format: TV edit

plot: After ruining her sister's wedding because she was drunk, a woman finds herself in rehab. Refusing at first to follow the rules, she ends up with a broken foot after climbing out a window for a bottle of pills, this forces her to take a honest look at things.

This wasn't a bad film, wasn't a great one either. It's a serious topic that plays it straight up till the last few minutes, then seemed to go for the comedy, which I felt took away from the point of the film.
We see many of the characters in the rehab center fail, which of course makes the main character try all that much harder to beat her own addiction.
The end scene that goes for the comedy, points out one of the characters trying to rush the final steps of recovery, by buying both a plant and a dog to prove they are ready for relationships, but has to admit he couldn't keep the plant alive. Proving he's just not ready yet for major responsibility.

After the credits, there was a short scene that shows a celebrity from a soap opera that the group watches, come to the same rehab center, showing that no one is above the pitfalls of life.
The soap opera the group watches becomes the glue that brings them all together, and is also a sort of new addiction for one of the main characters.

What did I learn?  Don't kill the plants.

Year 3 Day 39

movie: Riddick
starring: Vin Diesel, Bokeem Woodbine,
genre: Sci-fi, Drama
year: 2013
format: Shaw Video On Demand

plot: After deciding it's time to try to find his way home, Riddick is stranded on a desert planet. He manages to survive against all odds, until a bounty hunters come looking for him. Soon, chaos begins as the hunters and Riddick find themselves fighting off thousands of mutated scorpion like creatures that stand between them and getting off the planet.

Part three in the film series ( Pitch Black  and Chronicles of Riddick)

This takes you back to the idea of the first film, with man against beast and man against environment as the main plots.

I have to admit, I liked the idea of him saving a hyena-wolf creature in this and raising it, gave the character an edge we hadn't seen since his semi adopting the kid in the first one.

This is pretty much a sci-fi-western. A lot of shoot'em up scenes, on a deserted planet. Bit predictable at times, but it's still enjoyable.

The Nosferatu Adventures S4 p7

The Nosferatu Adventures
page 109, chapter 109

The Ship...

Reuben stared out over the railing at the water, the crisp salty air cleaning his senses. Tombstone yawned as he stretched out beside him. "They let anyone on this thing." the werewolf said sniffing. He cast a glance over his shoulder at the dark haired male.

"Reuben. Always a pleasure." Harker commented.

"What are you doing here? I thought you had your own ship?" he spat over the edge of the railing, tasting the large rat still that he'd found in the cargo area.

Harker walked over, leaning on the railing beside him. "Normally I do. I came aboard with a few of my men this morning at the last port. I'm thinking of buying this ship, wanted to make sure it's worth it. What are you doing here?"

Reuben scratched at his beard as he turned, leaning his elbows on the railings. "Yeah about that." he grunted, licking his lips as a playful gleam sparkled in his beautiful eyes. "You're going to want to come to my bunk with me." the tall male scratched at his stomach. Harker laughed crossing his arms.

"Reuben, I'm flattered truly I am, but my heart lays elsewhere." he bowed his head slightly closing his eyes.

Tilting his head to the side, a few strains of dark curls falling across his face, the werewolf shrugged. "Trust me, you're really going to want to see what I've got to show you in my bunk."

Rolf's nose twitched with a familiar smell as he jumped out of this bunk, running his hand through his hair. He growled as the door to the cabin opened, revealing Harker along with Reuben, as Tombstone ran in, straight to our heroine's still sleeping form. "What the hell is he doing here?"

"My question. He's the new captain." Reuben's voice was filled with humour.

"Dagan!" Harker spotted his brother taking a step towards him, Rolf's hand firmly in the middle of his chest stopping him. "He's my brother."

"I don't care. You sure didn't seem to over the years." the large male shrugged his eyebrows knitted together, his lips pursed. "You have any idea what Dagan has sacrificed for you over the years?"

"What happened this time?"

"The female devoured him." Rolf answered sniffing.

"She drained his blood?" Harker asked, brushing the werewolf's hand from his chest.

"Not just that. Tore him to shreds. During sex." he started to make a chewing motion.

"Actually I think they were past that part." Reuben said matter of factly. He crossed into the room, sitting on his bunk.  The look on Harker's face clouded as the realization of what they were saying sunk in.

"So he's claimed her...as his mate?" the male wiped at the corners of his mouth as it suddenly went dry.

"Shortly after you left last time." Reuben added letting the magic mist remove his shirt as he stretched out on his bunk.

"So why she hurt him? How did she? I mean, she's not strong enough...physically, to overpower him." Harker's voice was a question.

"She's not the same as when you left. Shes'...she's evolving." Rolf made a wide gesture sweeping the room. Turning, the male let out a deep sigh sitting back down on his bunk. "Don't ask me into what."

"Narsh...blabs...ruff...I'm...running, running!" Dagan gave a start in his sleep, his right leg raising and hitting the bed, both arms up suddenly like he was throwing punches, as a snore echoed. The werewolf started to make chewing motions as he screamed again then woke himself up.
Sweating, blinking wildly he forced himself into a sitting position slowly, the blanket sliding to the floor. Looking around he swore, crawling onto the floor, and into the corner of the room before noticing his brother.  "Harker!" he crawled to him, hugging him; his face flat against his brother's stomach.
Dagan then turned as if a switch had been flicked, staring at the female who was still sedated. Snarling, saliva dripping from his bottom fangs he sprang towards her, landing on the very edge of her bunk. Bending his face to her neck, Dagan sniffed deeply. "I should have known something...something...something was wrong...." he trailed his nose from her collar bone down to her breast. "She doesn't smell like her anymore. She just smells like it." he continued trailing his face to her stomach, then growled again. "Call Loki, I want to return this gift." he poked his finger into her ribs a few times, trying to wake her up.

Year 3 Day 38

movie: The Family
starring: Michelle Pfeiffer, Robert De Niro
genre: Crime, Comedy, Drama
year: 2013
format: Shaw Video On Demand

plot: A mob family who have been hiding in Europe for the last few years in the Witness Protection program, find themselves once again in danger as a group of mobsters have found them in the tiny French city they are relocated to.

This is based on the book Malavita by French writer Tonino Benacquista.

This has on the surface, a slapstick comedic element to it, but it quickly sails into more of a dramatic film. Pfeiffer and De Niro are seamless as a married couple, who actually get along.
I liked the idea that the four main characters are fairly normal in their day to day lives, dealing with bad boyfriends, school bullies, neighbourhood get togethers etc. The idea that the De Niro character uses his knowledge of his days in the mob to get results and revenge on a chemical company that is destroying the city's water supply, is priceless.

The Nosferatu Adventures S4 p6

The Nosferatu Adventures
page 108, chapter 108

The Ship...

"You do realize we can't be angry at her for acting like a werewolf."  Rolf said his eyes closed. The large male was stretched in his bunk, the waves threatening to put him to sleep. Reuben on the other hand, was pacing around their room, too nervous, too angry still to do anything but think. Dagan was starting to heal, the worst of his wounds closed up, but he'd be a few days; having lost so much blood. Luckily, the female hadn't taken the werewolf's heart or severed his skull.
Rolf ended up having to sedate both of them with fairy dust. Tombstone, lay whimpering beside our heroine, the wolf-dog not understanding why his owner wasn't waking up.

"Damn it! I know, I know. Did you see the look in her eyes? Huh?" Reuben punched the wall swearing.

"She's lost her soul."

"How! Huh? Answer me that?"

"That baby she's carrying has a mind of it's own." he shrugged.

"A werewolf baby!" Reuben said taking a half step towards his friend. "She should have more soul, not no soul. Loyalty!" he smacked his fist into the palm of his other hand. "We..." his palm slapped against his chest as he made his point. "...werewolves are what loyalty is about!"  he fell to a crouch, his hands at his beard, not knowing what to do with his energy. Reuben wasn't liking being stuck inside the ship's cabin.

"She's going to have a demi-god. Gods are soulless." Rolf sniffed. Reuben swore as he stomped over to his own bunk, Tombstone suddenly beside him.

"I think he needs to go out." he patted the beast.

"Take him up deck, hold him over the side or something." Rolf muttered.

"I can't do that. Can I?"

"We've got four days on this ship. You'll need to think of something."

"Loki had to give her a huge beast. Couldn't give her a chihuahua."

Rolf opened his eyes to stare in question at Reuben. "You make no sense sometimes."

"This whole situation makes no sense. Why he even do this in the first place?" Reuben flicked his hair out of his face, his voice raising with frustration.

"If this works, he'll be able to repopulate the community with more born shifters. More born werewolves, not bitten ones. The odds of more born shifters means the possibility of more female werewolves being born. And to use a vampire as a surrogate, think of the implications."

"I don't want to think about it! I miss our female. Our Nosferatu. That thing has changed her, and I'm not sure for the better?" he patted his chest to make his point, his nostrils flaring.  Both males ears twitched as a faint echo grabbed their attention. Dagan was beginning to speak, to mumble incoherently in his sleep.

"mie harfss kin...tovedber..."

"How do think he's going to react when he recovers?" Reuben asked.

"One crisis at a time please." Tombstone whimpered again, tucking his tail between his legs, then ran to the door scratching. "Take that damned mutt up deck before there's a mess to clean." Rolf was loosing his patience.

"Why don't you?"

"I'd just as soon snap it's neck." Rolf growled. Reuben sniffed getting up and opened the cabin door, Tombstone racing ahead of him.

Meanwhile...

The Forest...

The Seer sat in the middle of the circle, covered in sweat, chanting. He'd been trying to summon the witch for hours, and was about to give up. He'd done everything needed, the right mix of oils, of herbs, candles, and a blood sacrifice. But this was the first time one of his summonings had failed. Standing up, he felt a light breeze begin to ruffle his hair.

"It didn't work." he said staring at the ground, one eyebrow raised.

"Because the one you seek isn't on this side they are on yours." the silhouette replied. "You know you can not summon a spirit if they have been reborn."

"So what do I do?" he raised his hands out to the sides, pleading with his Grandmother.

"Not sure there is anything you can do at this point." The figure faded as the Seer began to clean up the ritual items. He decided the next option would have to be a locator spell.

Ash walked out of the cabin, a new piece of fresh leather to hang over the tree to dry. Spotting the Seer near the back of the garden, he went to talk to him.  "There no chance your vision could be wrong?"

The younger werewolf shook his head letting out a deep sigh. "I've had a bunch of them in the last few hours. All seem to point to the same thing. A few conflicting details, but the ending always the same. I need to talk to this witch."

"The one from your visions?"  the Seer nodded, running his hand through his hair in frustration. Ash noticed how bad the Seer was looking. Worn, thin, his eyes glassy, his normally clean shaven jaw now sporting the beginning of a beard. He hadn't fed his sidhe side in awhile, and it was taking it's toll. The Seer's abilities were weakened so much, he hand't even shifted with the last few visions. And up to this point, every vision no matter how quick, or how small caused him to shift into his wolf form. "I didn't realize how much you were depending on Nosferatu to help with keeping your sidhe side under control."

"I don't want...don't worry about it. I'll find someone." he gave a weak smile. "There's a nunnery at the edge of the kingdom. I'll head that direction for a few days." Ash nodded as he gave the younger male a smirk. "There's a coven not far from there anyways. Might have some leads to how to find this witch."

The older werewolf stretched his shoulders, as he stood thinking about everything, a distant look in his eyes.  "Why is this witch so important to you?"

The Seer scratched the back of his skull closing his eyes, letting out a deep breath. "My visions haven't been as clear lately. I just know that this witch is at the center of everything." he growled. "One vision they were in battle, another they were being hung, another helping to deliver a baby, royal baby but they got stabbed and the baby stolen. They seem to die in every vision."

"And you tried the summoning because?"

"Oh, they-the visions- were all like a few hundred years ago. Only, I'm getting the idea this witch, she isn't dead." the Seer clutched suddenly at his skull, squeezing his eyes shut as he doubled over in pain. He screamed as his breathing became labored, falling to his knees, raking his fingers in the dirt.

"What did you see?" Ash asked helping him back up, the Seer's face covered in blood as it poured from his nose.

"I think we're about to have a new alpha? I saw Dagan dead and Reuben standing talking to Harker." he began to wipe his face with his hand, just smearing dirt into the blood.

"Harker's back?"

"No." he hesitated. "There was water all around them. I think they were on a ship?"

"And you think Reuben is going to take the alpha position?"

Year 3 Day 37

movie: 500 Days of Summer
starring: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Zooey Deschanel
genre: Comedy, Romance, Drama
year:2009
format: TV edit

plot:  A heartbroken guy goes over his last relationship, trying to understand where he went wrong.

WARNING! DO NOT WATCH THIS FILM IF YOU ARE DEPRESSED/BROKEN HEARTED/THINKING OF YOUR BIGGEST RELATIONSHIP!!

I liked this film. Didn't think that I would, but I did. There is something real in the way that this plays out. Normally, you have these types of stories told from a female's point of view (Sex and the City, Bridget Jones's Diary, anything by Jane Austen etc) but this being from a male's point of view just adds a twist of sweetness to it.

The dancing in the streets 80's video-scene was a bit silly, but when have we all not felt that way once in our lives?

The film jumps back and forth throughout, showing pieces of the relationship and comparing the good with the bad. I liked the fact that the adult friends are the sappy romantics, while the lead character's pre-teen sister is the rational voice in his life. Just goes to show that the older you get, does not always mean the wiser you get.

Year 3 Day 36

movie: Meet the Fockers
starring: Ben Stiller, Robert De Niro
genre: Comedy
year: 2004
format: TV edit

plot: A couple are planning their wedding and decide it's time for both sets of their parents to meet. During the course of the weekend, secrets are told to protect the bride's over barring father from what ends up being a major clash in personalities.

Okay, so this was a case of me flipping channels last night looking for a movie to watch, and have to admit, I almost decided not to watch it.  This was a tv edit, and the timing of commercials was actually distracting from the film, just awkwardly placed. But with that said,  the movie wasn't that bad. Stiller and De Niro seem to work fairly well together as a comedy duo.

I think what makes the film work, is that you can see some real life contrasts happening with the two families. Odd couple plots always seem to work because of their reflecting real life so much.
You can believe Dustin Hoffman and Barbra Streisand as this hippie-style couple. There is just a natural feeling of comfort with the two actors that managed to hit every note. Then again, I don't think I've ever seen a movie with Streisand that I didn't end up liking, her ability for comedy is always bang on.

And kudos to the animal trainer on this one for the scenes with the cat and dog.

The Nosferatu Adventures S4 p5

The Nosferatu Adventures
page 107, chapter 107

Reuben stopped just outside the apartment door, his nose twitching, the scent of hot copper and salt in the air. Rolf was still outside the building with Tombstone. The puppy had gotten the scent of something, running off after it, and he was trying to find him.
Carefully Reuben opened the door, his delicate nose assaulted by the smell, burning it. There was a stream of cooling blood coming from the hallway leading to the bedroom.

The neighbour Dolores's lifeless body lay in the middle of it, her stomach ripped to shreds, her throat torn to the point of near decapitation, the pooling blood under her a sticky mahogany colour. He took another step towards the bedroom, feeling something squashing under his foot. He didn't bother to look at what it had been, but assumed it had been the woman's eyeball.

The werewolf started to shift, his eyes turning to the amber-grey of the wolf, his bottom fangs jutting out exposed, nostrils flaring as he opened the bedroom door.
Dagan lay there on the bed, his left leg dangling over the edge at a strange angle, his left arm covered from the shoulder down in blood, bones exposed at his neck and ribs, one eye swollen. The bed sheets were drenched as tiny rivers of crimson seemed to flow towards the floor, like a bad tie-dye. Reuben wiped his mouth as a sick panic gripped him.
Another step closer revealed Dagan's chest looked as if something had chewed through the ribs.

"What happened?" his voice squeaked as he spotted our heroine curled up in the corner, covered in blood smears. "What the hell happened?" he screamed this time.

"I'm not sure." she was trembling as she started to get up, seeming to notice her hands were covered in blood. Our heroine began licking her palms, her wrists of the blood. Reuben grabbed her by the shoulder, dragging her to a standing position. "I was feeding off him like normal, but the second I got a taste of the werewolf blood, I couldn't stop. There was this burning in the pit of my stomach."

"You did this?" he shook her. "You did...you cannibalized your own mate? Your own husband!" he stopped getting a good look at her face. Her eyes which normally would have been pure white of the banshee, were yellow with pupils of amber-grey, something more then wolf eyes, her normal double row of fangs were now a row of four, her skin which was naturally pale was nearly glowing white, and her hair had turned shockingly white, the grey streaks almost unnoticeable.

"What can I say, he's so damn dishy." she smirked.

"What's happening to you?" his voice was something between terror and disgust.

"This experiment Loki stuck inside me. I think it's infecting me. It doesn't want...it doesn't want me to be...me." she chuckled leaning towards him, sniffing his chest. "God you smell good."

The male's expression changed. "It's adapting. Making you more hospitable for it to grow. Making you a shapeshifter." he ran his hands over his face and beard then moved towards the bed, grabbing another blanket. "Get dressed." he started to wrap Dagan's body in the fresh blanket. "You're coming home with us."  Lifting the weight of his friend onto his shoulders, he heard Rolf at the front door of the building with Tombstone."Get your bag, Rolf has the dog, get dressed. NOW!" Reuben screamed as he watched the female start to shuffle on shaky legs. Rolf walked into the apartment just in time to have Reuben smash into him with Dagan's body, blood smearing on him. Our heroine grabbed the leather bag from the corner of the living room where she kept it, then started to head back towards the kitchen grabbing the old book they had been looking at earlier. "I told you to get dressed!" he screamed again.

Magic mist suddenly engulfed the female, leaving a pair of black yoga pants and t-shirt in it's wake. "No need." she rubbed her belly. "Fashion designer on board." She then straightened up, sniffing deeply. Her eyes were cold as she stared into the depth of Rolf's own. "By the way, you're little girlfriend there." she pointed to Dolores's mangled corpse. "If she hadn't been so eager to get into your pants she'd still be alive. She stopped by hoping to seduce you, right in the middle of snack time. I didn't have a choice." she licked her lips. Her features seemed to cloud then with a look of such emptiness, something beyond cruel.

The large werewolf stiffened as he stood to his full height, the magic mist swirling around him in a haze of disappearing clothes for a few seconds, his anger barely under check.
And that's when he knew. Our heroine's eyes were truly empty.

She'd lost her soul.

Year 3 Day 35

movie: Red 2
starring: Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren
genre: Comedy, Action
year: 2013
format: Shaw Video On Demand

plot: A former assassin is forced to come out of semi-retirement in order to find a nuclear weapon thought lost in the cold war, while staying one step ahead of other assassins out to kill him and his girlfriend.

This is a sequel, and based on the comic book.

I did like this film, though I thought it went in circles as far as the way it was told. I liked the addition of Anthony Hopkins to the already established group, would have liked to have had more of him and Helen Mirren's characters personally.  I think they have amazing chemistry together. (if you haven't seen them in Hitchcock, you should)

The first film seemed to have the comedy as an underlining tongue in cheek sort of way, but part 2 didn't quite get the comedy right. It was as if they were trying too hard.

Year 3 Day 34

movie: Scary Movie 4
starring: Anna Faris, Craig Bierko
genre: Comedy
year: 2006
format: online Netflix Canada

plot:Parody of War of the Worlds and The Village

I thought I might as well finish off the ones Netflix Canada had in this category.  I think the funniest moments were the ones with Leslie Nielsen as the president. I'm slightly relieved to know they censored the naked butt scene, cause as funny as it was, after a certain age everyone should stay dressed.
I found the overall plot to be better then part three, but it was just okay. I wasn't overly excited about it.

The Nosferatu Adventures S4 p4

The Nosferatu Adventures
page 106, chapter 106

Our heroine and Reuben ran into the apartment, Tombstone trailing behind them. The female shoved Dagan hard. "You screwed up again!" she shoved him a second time. "Biting the vet?"
Dagan stood there, a look of shock on his face.

"There is no vet. I took care of it." Rolf responded from the kitchen where he was standing, a dish in hand. "When I picked him up from the pound, I saw him bite the vet and I finished the job. No vet, no new lycan, no getting caught." he said raising his hand to the female trying to calm her down. Rolf shook his head, a mass of curls going everywhere. "I'm going to go get some air, maybe take the puppy for another walk, see if I can find a park or something. Reuben, you with me?"

"Yeah, sounds like a plan." he replied as he backed out of the apartment slowly. Rolf was right behind him.

"You two need to straighten some stuff out." he whistled for Tombstone to follow him as our heroine closed the door behind them.  She then crossed to the bookshelf getting a hardcover book from it. It was frayed and falling apart, the title long since rubbed off by wear. Opening it, she handed it to the werewolf.

"What am I looking at?" he asked balancing it on one flat palm, the other hovering over the page.

"It's a local history." she pointed to the middle of the page. "Didn't Jance say something about two guys at the Fort?"  Dagan's eyes darted around as he tried to remember.

"Yeah. We only ever came in contact with the necromancer, not the death match guy. Why?" The female pointed to a drawing few pages over, her fingertips brushing against Dagan's hand.

"According to this, there were two brothers who came over from Ireland back in the 1600's and settled around here." she pointed to the area on the old map that contained the kingdom they were in; trailing her finger past the next kingdom and to the middle of the map, to the kingdom they had come from. "One was said to have been a very powerful witch. They were banished to the darkest part of the forests and mountain area after the locals found them doing experiments." she moved her finger in a circle pointing to the area of the kingdom the pack usually lived.

"What kind of experiments?"

"The kind that would cause them to have to hide for a few hundred years." she reached over flipping a few more pages.

"I'm waiting for the punchline."

"According to this book, the two brothers came from a long line of male heirs. They both married, both had two sons each. Those sons grew up and married and both had two sons each..." the book snapped shut causing our heroine to jump as Dagan tossed it onto the counter.

"So you think these two guys this death match winner and necromancer are related to them somehow?"

"Ripper, not just that. I think your uncle Victor..."  His eyebrows raised as he stuck his neck out as if questioning her, as if daring her to continue her theory. "Fine. Don't believe me. But if nothing I think we both know there are no such things as coincidence."

The male snarled as he thought about what she was trying to tell him. Closing his eyes, Dagan leaned against the wall, pulling her to him tight. "I think the numbing agent finally wore off." he sniffed her cheek, her ear as he changed the topic.

"Well if the dent you're leaving in my hip is any indication..."

"You realize they took the puppy so we'd be totally alone right?" he started to sway against her.  Our heroine glared at him as someone knocked at the door. She went to answer it, finding a box sitting there.  Bringing it into the living room, she opened it.
Jumping onto the sofa she let out a yelp of fear as the contents of the box spilled out on the floor. Dagan was beside her in a heartbeat.

"It's just flowers." he said mildly annoyed.

"Roses! Red roses!" the vampire huffed as she climbed over the back of the sofa, moving farther into the hallway. The werewolf started to clean them up, noticing a card.

"A flower in bloom should always be reminded how sweet they are."  he started laughing "That is the cheesiest bit of crap I've ever heard." he was already walking out of the apartment and across the hall to Dolores's. Knocking on the door his right leg started twitching as he got impatient. After a few extremely long seconds, she finally opened the door. Dagan shoved them at her. "Someone from her work sent these to us...her and she's deathly allergic to roses. Want them?"

Dolores smiled as she grabbed for them. "Well, if she's allergic it would be a shame..."

"Cool." he was already back at their apartment with the door shut before her sentence was finished. He sniffed the card and the empty gift box but found nothing but the smell of the flowers to indicate who might have sent them. "Who the hell would waste good money on flowers for you?"

"Someone who's obviously not you. Door's that way." she sighed, her hands locked behind her neck. Dagan stared at her, his lips pressed together forming a hard line, scratching at his right shoulder. He leaned forward nodding more to himself then her, his eyes changing to the amber-grey of the wolf, as he advanced a few steps towards her. He then stood to his full height, both hands trailing across the walls as he continued to slowly move to where she was.

He held his hand up mumbling "Five minutes."

"I want to hate you so much. I should hate you with every fiber of my being." her tone was completely deflated.

"But you can't." he breathed, the heat of his breath rolling over her skin, sending a shiver of desire through her, forcing her to look away from him. She said nothing as he grinned down at her, then bit his bottom lip his fangs jutting out, two days worth of beard suddenly on his jaw. "This is primal." he took another step forward, his body crashing into hers, causing her to back up into the bedroom. The second the werewolf crossed over the threshold of the room, he seemed to get control of himself, totally human again. "You can't hate me." he shrugged his right shoulder; his eyes wide, wiping at the corners of his mouth. "Just like I can't hate you. Can't seem to get you out of my mind. I've had way better looking females in my bed..." he tilted his head to the side as he rolled his eyes. "...and not one of them ever left me the drooling mess you have. And I've asked Loki, asked Bacchus to unbind us."  he shook his head. "But in the end, this is just..." he made a sound that was more than a growl, more than a moan but purely animalistic, the magic mist swirling around him, his shirt melting away.

"You've got four minutes left to make your point."

"At this point, I think I only need two."

tune in again for another installment of the Nosferatu Adventures starring your heroine...me (straight up story. So does our little vampire have a secret admirer or is someone out to kill her?)

Year 3 Day 33

movie: Our Idiot Brother
starring: Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks
genre: Comedy, Drama,
year: 2011
format: online Netflix Canada

plot: after being in jail for selling weed to a cop, a man finds himself kicked out of his girlfriend's house and having to live with his relatives. Each one of his sisters ends up having their life fall apart when he stays with them, only because his extreme honesty uncovers everyone's betrayals.

I started off iffy on this film. I liked the idea behind it, but some of the characters were just so one dimensional, such as the cheating brother-in-law and the main character's ex-girlfriend.
All I could think through half of it was, too bad more people aren't this honest. The world wouldn't be as messed up if people took a page out of this character's life.

I liked the comical sub-plot between the main character and the new boyfriend of his ex and their friendship. I can say, that's not something you see too often in real life. I know personally, I'm not the type to be friends with any ex-boyfriend, let alone their new girl. I'm not that good of a person.

The Nosferatu Adventures S4 p3

The Nosferatu Adventures
page 105, chapter 105

"Why am I naked?" Reuben asked a little while later, his skull feeling as if he'd been a few rounds with a grizzly bear. "I think I'm going to puke." he leaned over when he realized he was on the floor, his face resting on our heroine's lap.

"Don't move too much. You were tossed around for a bit by a god. Well, two actually." she said smoothing his hair from his face. "You lost a lot of blood between that and me feeding off you earlier."

"I don't remember." he tried to get dressed, but he was too weak; the magic mist just seemed to appear more like a thick coating of sweat. "Come on!" he screamed in frustration trying a second time. The werewolf managed a pair of shorts, as he sat up pressing the heel of his hand to his forehead squeezing his eyes shut. "Hi." he sniffed deeply. "What is that smell?"

"Your skull was a bit...leaky." the female pointed to the spot on the wall where he'd been thrown, at the dark brown spot and splats of crimson. "I won't even tell you what I already cleaned off the floor."  Reuben turned to see a mop, bucket and towels a few feet beside them. "Your skull wasn't the only thing that sprung a few leaks. Put it that way."

"Well that sounds very intimate in a medical sort of way." he scratched at his beard, misting a pair of pants, clearly embarrassed. "I don't remember any of that. Last thing I remember was the old dude in the spice shop who said he'd seen you there few times. And needing to get out of there because my very sensitive werewolf nose was burning from all the spices." he looked at her finally, his eyebrows knitted together. "What happened to your clothes?" he asked pointing to the fact she was sitting there in a bra and torn pants.

"You shredded them. I didn't want to get anything else destroyed cleaning up your...you." she said matter of factly. There was a knock at the door, as Reuben moved to sit with his back against the wall.

"Rolf and Dagan." he said sniffing. Screaming that it was open, our heroine disappeared into the bedroom for a robe. The other two werewolves entered the apartment, Rolf looking tired, and Dagan looking half out of it.
He was grabbing himself, stretching and flexing his knees, mumbling about revenge, his other hand flicking at his ear.

"What's wrong with you?" she asked walking back out into the living room, the pink robe slipping off her shoulder.  Rolf started to laugh, having to cover his mouth with his hand.

"I don't want to talk about it!" Dagan answered stumbling around like his one leg was rubber.

"Moron got himself picked up by the dog catcher, and was about to get..."

"Shhhssshh! I don't want to talk about it! Damn it!" he pointed at the larger male. "I'm still numb."

"...about to get neutered." Rolf was grinning as he crossed to the window, leaning against it. Tombstone pranced between him and Reuben sniffing them both, happily wagging his tail.

"The vet shot me three times with the sedative, bit him the last time, my legs are still...that stupid..." our heroine started laughing as she listened. "Really? For once can you show some compassion? Please?" he snarled.

She took a step towards the male, placing her hands on either side of his face, kissing his neck.  "I'm sorry. I'm sorry you nearly got physically neutered."

"Tha..." he cleared his throat. "Thank you." he nodded, still grabbing at himself.

"But, what I don't understand is why you didn't just go ahead with it? With all the magical restraints on you, you're practically neutered already."

Both Rolf and Reuben broke out in a mad fit of laughter, which caused Dagan to swear as he spun around on his heels, his one hand in a fist.

"Seriously! You stupid..." he growled snapping his teeth at the female. "I can't believe you actually would say something like that?" he stomped "Really? Seriously! You think that little of me?" he screwed up his face tilting his upper body from her as the female let out a deep sigh. She grabbed for his waist, letting her hands fall onto his hips.

"Why is everything a fight with you?" she asked before turning to look at Rolf. "I'm going to need a personal referee for the next few hundred years with him aren't I?" Rolf nodded grinning.

"So glad you all find my pain so funny!" he spat the last word letting out another growl. Rolf cleared his throat moving from the window.

"I spotted a shop down the street. Think I'll go pick up some stuff for us for dinner." he was still smirking as he walked out of the apartment door, to see Dolores standing across the hall, with her key in her lock.

"Well, hello there." the other female said, her hand suddenly at her hair. "Are you a friend of Nosferatu's?"

"Yeah." Rolf nodded nearly running out of the building. Our heroine closed the apartment door, turning her attention back to Dagan, only he was no longer in the living room.  Sighing, she headed towards her bedroom.

"You going to tell me what's going on with the others?" she asked getting another pair of the petal-pushers from her closet and a baby blue silk shirt from her drawer. Dagan sniffed the old fashioned alarm clock as he picked it up, then a copy of Mansfield Park that had been siting beside it on the night stand. He moved around the room making sure to touch everything leaving his scent everywhere to mark his territory before checking his hair in the mirror.

"The Seer is fine if that's what you're asking. He has had his hands full, we all did, since you left with that necromancer at the Fort. We've slaughtered at lest another dozen of those reanimated pets of his." the male snorted as he moved to sit on the bed, his elbows on his knees, fingers locked together. "Leo is Leo. Ash is puppy sitting. Rufus has been digging up the whole yard, like he's looking for something. Dewy has been sleeping on your pillow, howling all night. He misses you." the werewolf got back up, opened the top drawer of her dresser, holding up a bra.

"Hey!" she slapped his hand taking it from him.

"Okay Gidget. Wow, that looks uncomfortable. You could put an eye out with that thing. I mean, I don't know anything about fashion but, boobs are not that pointy. Lest not yours." he gestured towards her chest. "Gravity and all." Dagan gave her an innocent smile, scratching his nose.

"Maybe I'll have you neutered anyways." she responded. "De-fanged, de-clawed and de-loused."

"You missed me." he said flatly, his mouth open, running his tongue over his teeth, his chin raised a centimeter.

"What do you need?" she asked closing her eyes.  They heard Rolf return along with a female voice asking him a million questions. Dolores was at the door holding a bunt cake. Our heroine crossed to see what the commotion was, as Rolf was in the far end of the tiny kitchen, unpacking two paper bags of groceries. Handing the cake to our heroine, Dolores continued to press for answers.

"Is he your brother?" she asked with a very hopeful look.  Our heroine turned to see Rolf shaking his head no.

"Um...not my brother."

"Co-worker then?" the other female's voice was getting a bit pinched. Our heroine shook her head again.

"Nope. Not my co-worker."

Dolores's expression fell a little. "So he's your fella?" the disappointment was starting to show in her posture. Our heroine licked her lips, standing up a bit straighter herself.

"Actually...he's..." she felt the weight of Dagan's chin as he rested it on top of her hair, his hands behind his back. "Yeah. Totally. He's my guy, and so is he." she gestured with her elbow towards Reuben who was sitting on the floor petting Tombstone. "And this is my husband." she gestured to Dagan. Dolores fanned herself, all the colour draining out from her, leaving her cherry red lipstick that much brighter. "We've been living in a commune, dancing naked under the full moon. But only on Fridays, the rest of the time we work the fields harvesting the mushrooms for this big caterpillar, who doesn't eat red meat. And on our nights off, we just worship each other like bats."

Dolores gave a small laugh winking. "Oh you nearly had me believing you. My goodness! You're so funny, you should be a writer." she waved towards Rolf. "Enjoy the cake." They watched as she walked back to her apartment, her hips swinging seductively. Closing the door, our heroine turned to look at the large male who seemed to be pressing himself as tight into the corner of the room as he could, his aura sparkling pink.

Our heroine put the cake on the table. "Rolf, you look like you've seen a ghost."

"She was scary. Lock the door." his chin wobbled. "Please. Lock it."

"Rolf, you're over 6 feet tall, 200 pounds, built like an oak tree and an immortal lycanthrope. You're telling me you're frightened of a 5 foot two widow who bakes?" she crossed her arms over her chest not believing what she was witnessing.

"I don't want to talk about it."

About a half hour later, Reuben was outside with our heroine. "Can we talk about what happened earlier?" he ran his hands over his face then through his hair, bouncing up and down. They were walking Tombstone near the edge of the building.

"There's no need. It wasn't really you. Pan possessed you."

"Any idea why?" he made a face scrapping poop from his shoe. The female shook her head no.

"And you guys realize you can't really hunt while you're here..." the sentence trailed off as her eyes went wide. "Oh my god! Dagan said he bit the vet!"

"We're shacked!"

Year 3 Day 32

movie: Anger Management
starring: Adam Sandler, Jack Nicholson
genre: Comedy, Drama
year: 2003
format: online Netflix Canada

plot: A man who has repressed his anger since childhood, finds himself in an intense anger therapy class with a man who takes over his life.

I seem to be finding myself watching more Adam Sandler films then I really care to.  But, this was good.
I have to admit, my biggest pop in this film was the sixty second cameo by soap star Don Diamont, from Bold and the Beautiful.
For once, I have to say, I didn't see the ending coming, I was expecting a completely different ending such as it being he wasn't a real therapist but a patient or that he was really the girlfriend's ex or something.  It's rare that anything has a new element in it, specially romantic comedy/buddy movies like this one.

The Nosferatu Adventures S4 p2

The Nosferatu Adventures
page 104, chapter 104

 The City...

The scent of raw spices filled the air, leaving a warm haze over everything. Our heroine sipped a cup of hot chocolate, as she listened to someone playing the flute in the apartment across the alley.
It had been three weeks, since she'd woken up from the dream about the library, since the situation had started with Loki.

It had made her realize she was more then just homesick, she was self sick. The female had made a decision as she lay there in bed next to Dagan, searching the werewolf's face for some sort of understanding. That's when she realized, this Loki situation changed everything.
The female had silently gotten her stuff, picked up Tombstone, who had grown to the size of a small labrador, and left the old witch's cabin.
Dagan had not followed her. She had no idea if that was because he just thought she was hiding out at Ash's or if he didn't bother to care? Either way, she found herself at the docks and boarded a ship. Four days later, our heroine ended up in a port city a few kingdoms over.

It had been like walking into a jazz painting. The music, colours, smells all rich and streaming. Silks dipped and draped from every window and doorway, painters sat in the middle of stairwells selling their art for coins, while everything seemed to have a heavy dusting of spice powders. She felt like she could breath again.
By the end of that first day, our heroine had found a job working in a small shop and the tiny apartment. Just enough for her and Tombstone, who had grown to full size. The half timber wolf-half hellhound was about four feet from the floor to his shoulders and five feet from his tail to his nose.

Crossing from her 1950's style kitchen to her 1950's style living room, she petted the beast as she sat down. At lest, she seemed to be in a place that was out of the middle ages. Though stuck in what would seem the decade of  the tv dinner, she did have a refrigerator, toaster and to her bliss, the females in the kingdom wore pants. Okay, so petal-pushers were not her first choice in clothes, but it was better then only having a choice of skirt.
Tombstone sat up straight, his nose twitching as he grunted, making his way to the window, sniffing the pane. The animal then headed towards the front door, sniffing again, his tail wagging as he began to whimper.  Answering it, our heroine had expected to see Dolores, the lady from across the hall with more of her homemade cookies, but she was taken aback to find Reuben standing there.

"Dagan told me what happened." he said leaning on his forearm, his elbow pointing to the hallway.

"So he sent you to do his dirty work?" she asked moving aside so that the tall male could enter the apartment.

"No, He's in the city too. Just got himself chucked into a cell. He was in wolf form when we got to port, and the dog catcher quarantined him. Rolf is handling it."  Reuben commented scratching at his chin.

"Why am I not surprised?" she moved to lock the door, as Tombstone pranced around the werewolf like the giddy puppy he really was, his nose sniffing wildly, tail wagging.

"How'd you find me?"

Reuben flicked his hair out of his face as he turned his eyes to glare at her sideways. "Sniffed you out. Followed your scent to the docks, took a bit to figure out what ship you hopped, but once we did, you know." he shrugged crossing his arms.

"I'm not going back. There is nothing you can say to make me."  she sighed, her hand resting on his arm.

Reuben sniffed, nodding as he took a half step back then forward again. The rustling of leaves indicating the magic mist as his shirt faded in and out for a few seconds. "Is there a reason for this? Is there something you want? That you think you'll find here?" the werewolf asked as he bent to pet the puppy.

"You don't really want the answer to that." the female said letting her hands slap against her tights.

He stood again, smirking at her, his hair falling over his right eye. "When was the last time you fed?" Our heroine walked past the male to the kitchen opening the old fridge showing three blood bags. "What?" Reuben raised his arms out to the sides a tease in his voice. "I'm offering you the good stuff. Lycan circa 1986 and you're telling me you're fine with a bagged lunch?" he raised an eyebrow at her. "Smoother then hundred year old scotch."   She said nothing as she moved closer, grabbing his outstretched arm, biting down hard just above the elbow. They both heard the light popping sound as her fangs broke through the soft area of flesh. His eyes glazed over for the briefest of seconds as Reuben let himself relax into it, throwing himself back against the wall, as the banshee tightened her grip.
He gave her to the count of thirty before grabbing her by the neck with his free hand, ripping her mouth from him. A low laugh escaped him, as he stared at her, blood smeared across her face.

"You've been snacking on candied ginger." she commented wiping her face.

"I was thinking of you the whole time." he nodded, flicking his hair out of his face as he ran his left hand down his chest, making circle motions on his stomach. He cracked his neck twice. "Just you and how tasty I'd be for you, how sweet my blood would be." he leaned one arm on the wall, as if posing.

"Okay flirty-pants, what's up?" she couldn't help but giggle at his behavior.

"Are you going to raise it? Loki's..." he closed his eyes grunting as he cracked his neck yet again.

"Experiment? I have no idea. I don't know if I'll survive it, if it will survive? If it's going to be human or wolf or some twisted mess? No idea if Loki will take it when it's born, if it's born? What if that's all it is, is an experiment? What if in the end, he just kills it? Or me or something? And what if it works and he puts me through the whole process again?"

"Well, you can't raise it here?" Reuben replied scratching his stomach. "If it survives, if you do and it's a shifter, you're only option is to come back to..." he moved another step closer raising his arms as if he was going to hold her.

"We'll cross that when it happens." she sighed closing her eyes, patting him on the arm. Reuben sniffed, his hair falling into his face as he stared down at her.

"You're looking surprisingly good." licking his lips, the male took a step towards her, a predatory look clouding his face. He leaned in sniffing her neck, his hands digging into her shoulders suddenly, as his chocolate brown puppy dog eyes shifted to the amber-grey of the werewolf. He started to herd her then out of the tiny kitchen around the corner past the pink wallpaper and into the bedroom. His eyes then flashed again, completely black as if they were nothing but empty sockets.

"Reuben?" she started to tremble. The male cracked his neck for the hundredth time, as if needing to stretch. As if his body didn't fit.

"Nope. Just wearing the boy for a few hours." he kicked the door closed behind him sniffing deeply again. "He's really got to lay off the drugs. Makes him so easy to possess." the magic mist appeared and disappeared like a heavy fog. "Such a fighter too!" he shook his head. "See how he's trying to stay dressed. So if you're worried don't be. He's still alive in here. But I figured he was the easiest way to get close to you..." he growled licking her cheek. "He's the one you actually trust the most right?" he licked his lips again smiling wide, his eyes flashing the wolf once more. "The scars I'm going to leave on his mind, on his conscious. Reuben is really going to hate himself when I'm done playing with him." the werewolf tilted his head to the side his face completely hidden by a curtain of hair. He chuckled tightening his grip on her shoulders, pressing her against him. "Werewolves can't actually do what I'm about to do to you. There's just this psychological blockage that Loki imbedded in them to keep them...wholesome. But with me in here flicking the switches..." he pinned her to the bed, his left hand at her throat, rolling his eyes at her. "Well he'll be the first ever to loose his halo." he stuck his tongue out at her, mocking the way Reuben sometimes did. "I'm Pan by the the way." he howled. "Maybe I'll take full advantage of this boy's shifting ability and wolf out second round huh? Trust me when I say, the thought crossed his mind a few times." he winked at her, licking her neck as he covered her mouth with his one hand. The magic mist wrapping around him as his clothes melted away. Her legs were starting to go numb from the weight of being pinned down, the sound of her clothes being ripped echoing in her ears. "I guess I should thank Loki and Bacchus for doing all the heavy lifting. But we're not on speaking terms."

"There's a reason for that." a voice bounced off the walls. The male was tossed across the length of the tiny apartment, smashing into the wall. Our heroine turned to see the librarian from her dream, quickly guessing it was Bacchus.

"We'll finish this later my little nymph." Pan said licking his lips once more as he threw Reuben into the wall a couple of times, his body falling to the floor in a heap as a black silhouette drifted from him, forming into a saytr before shimmering and disappearing.

Year 3 Day 31

movie: Scary Movie 3
starring:  Anna Faris, Simon Rex
genre: Comedy
year: 2003
format: online Netflix Canada

plot: Parody of The Ring movies and Signs.

This one was more of a sci-fi then horror this time around, and although the casting was better, it was a bit weirder. I'm not sure the Matrix stuff really fit with the rest of the story...er parody.  It just seemed like overkill.

Yeah, I didn't learn anything from it.

Year 3 Day 30

movie: Scary Movie 2
starring: Anna Faris, Tim Curry
genre: Comedy
year: 2001
format: online Netflix Canada

plot: Little bit of the Exorcist and haunted house movies.

Okay, I admit, it's better to watch these films when you know what movies are being parodied. I got the Exorcist part, the Amityville part,  got the What Lies Beneath part, and that was about it, the rest I just couldn't figure.

Did I like it? Yeah, it was a decent enough movie to kill time with. When I saw that Tim Curry was in it, I was really thinking he'd give more strength to the film, but sadly, I found him misused.

The Nosferatu Adventures S4 p1

The Nosferatu Adventures
page 103, chapter 103

The sign on the door read Friday 9am to 7pm. Opening it, forced her to shift the weight of her leather bag in order to still hold her coffee. The place had the familiar smell all libraries do, a mix of industrial cleaners, bubble gum, and dust.

She hated bubble gum.

She headed downstairs to the research department, finding herself a table between the front desk and the copy machine. Catching sight of herself in the window, she promised to pick up a hair dye on her way home, mentally adding it to her to do list. Her naturally auburn hair now had two large grey streaks in it, as if over night. She felt comfortable with the rest of her outfit of dark jeans, sneakers, a plan v-neck t-shirt and charcoal sweater that came to mid thigh. Grabbing her notes, she found the list of books she needed to continue her thesis. Most were in the New Age-Occult section, which was just three rows from her table.
Our heroine wasn't paying attention at first, which is why she nearly tripped over the male.

"Oh, I'm Sorry." she said pushing her wire rimmed glasses up in nervousness. The male had been crouched down in front of a selection of books on wild life. Standing, he nodded smiling at her, his long hair tied back in a too smooth to be human pony tale, his chocolate brown puppy dog eyes sparkling.

"No problem." he said mindlessly scratching at his beard. Our heroine noticed he had a rabbit design on his shirt as she moved around him to find the shelf she was looking for. Just as she was reaching for a book on the history of witchcraft, a very strong hand reached in at the same time snatching it.

"Excuse me." he said nodding. "Did you need this?" he smiled wide, running his hand through his short hair as if checking it.

"I just need to copy a few pages from it." she mumbled.

"Are you in my class?" the male asked turning his face slightly, his perfect lips forming an 'o'. "I'm sorry. I'm terrible with faces." he cleared his throat running his free hand down to smooth his grey tie. "So many middle aged women going back to school and stuff." his blue eyes trailed over her. "You all just blend into a blur."

Our heroine pulled the charcoal coloured sweater tight as she ran her tongue over her teeth in frustration. "Not a student. Forget the book."  she turned heading back to her table.
Taking a sip of her coffee, she was still thinking about how cocky that guy had been when she felt someone bump into her. She ended up spilling coffee on herself and half her notes. "Dude! Really?" she turned to see a male disappear behind a row of shelves, only getting a quick glimpse of his black trenchcoat. Digging then into her leather bag, she found some napkins.

"Well that's an interesting binder." a voice said over her left shoulder. Our heroine found herself staring at a very tattooed arm holding a very expensive camera. He was tall, tattoos peaking out from under a plain long sleeved shirt that he had rolled up to his elbows, and short hair spiked into a half mohawk. She closed her eyes at a loss for words before letting out a deep sigh, feeling her shoulders sag.

"Yeah, it started off as a joke gift from my cousin but ended up being pretty useful." she found herself blushing as she studied the hand now holding the camera. The tattooed letters on his knuckles formed the word 'stay'.

"You look like you could use a break already. We're doing a photo shoot in the next room, want to come watch?" he said casually.
She followed him to the next room with a sign that read Adult-Young Adult Romance/Fiction, and another sign under it that declared book club on Tuesdays. There were a few backdrops, a large tripod light and one very broad shouldered male standing there waiting. He flicked his hair out of his eyes, as he grinned. "He's our model for the day."

"I got that much given the whole standing there before the props and the drooling teenagers hovering by the door." she said gesturing to the four teens all carrying copies of the latest teen supernatural-romance, which all seemed to have a vague likeness of the model. She watched as the male model flicked his long jet black hair out of his face for a second time. "Wow, does he come with his own wind machine? Like he was designed for movie posters."
She watched the shoot for the next few minutes, before having to get back to her research. At one point, the photographer had to pull a very insistent 15 year old off of the lighting tripod, as she was swinging on it like a stripper pole. Our heroine wasn't sure if the girl was just trying to get the male model's attention or actually on camera herself?
When she got back to her table, she noticed a man sleeping at the far end of the table right next to her's. He was dressed in red leather pants, boots, and a biker jacket, leaning back in the chair, feet up on the table, his breathing steady. Our heroine had the strangest deja vu as she stared at him.

Reaching into her bag for a pen, she snagged her bracelet on the handle of her lunchbox, and had to pull it out of the bag in order to free herself.

"Rare to see those types of lunchboxes anymore. Is it your son's?"

Our heroine shook her head at the man as she mindlessly opened it. "Don't have any kids. Saw it and thought it would make a good make-up kit."  She checked him over; dark spiky hair, brown eyes, pale, dressed in dark jeans and a grey shirt that had the word Detroit on it.

"Really? You just seem...that age." he winked at her.

"Excuse me miss, is this guy bothering you?" yet another voice seemed to appear at her shoulder. She was about to say no when Detroit smiled and backed away, disappearing into the other room. Turning she saw a new player. He was about 5 foot 10, short brown hair, grey eyes, suit pants, white dress shirt with the cuffs unbuttoned, red tie, and a stack of files in hand.  She pushed her glasses up again as she checked him out. Licking her lips, she told him she was fine. "Well, if you need anything, my office is just over there." he walked away, closing the door to the office. "You shouldn't have done that." he said as Loki shimmered into view.

"She needs to wake up and sitting in here isn't part of my plans." the god said peaking through the blinds on the office door.

Bacchus scratched his nose. "She needs to accept what's going on. You really did a number on her. I don't think a few days knocked out, dreaming of a safer place..."

"Not helping. Just going to make it worse when she does wake up, and you know it." he pointed at the other god. "And what's with the new look?"

"It's one of my favourites. How'd you swing it in that outfit without her recognizing you as her favourite wrestler?"

"Cloaking myself. She just thinks this image is some hot guy." he jutted his chin out winking. "She's got two more days, then I'm forcing her to wake up and remember."

"What if it doesn't work? What if she's just not strong enough in the end?" Bacchus asked.

"We start over."

Meanwhile...

Our heroine was at the copy machine, photocopying pages from a book on German fairy tales when the first guy in the rabbit shirt came over. "I'll be just a minute."

"No rush." he replied, a large volume in his hand. Leaning over, he let his fingers gently flick at her bracelet. "That's neat."

"Thanks." she held up her wrist showing the charms; a wolf, a pentagram, a moon, a dream catcher, a bat, an arrow and a pirates flag with a skull an crossbones on it.

"Where did you get it?"

She went to answer and found herself unable to remember. "Been so long." she shrugged then gestured to the copier. "There you go."

"Thanks. Reuben by the way."

"Nosferatu."

Meanwhile...

The lights were starting to hurt his eyes, his back already forcing him to need to stretch. "Ash, can we take a break?"

The photographer checked the time  nodding. "Yeah ten minutes, I want to get this done by deadline." He looked around, sighing at the handful of teens that had gathered again. He was going to kill whoever it was that leaked their location online. This was one of the reasons Ash had left his job at the magazine to do poster and novel covers, it was suppose to be quieter shoots. But it seemed someone at their agency had leaked online that Rolf was shooting the latest poster for a young adult novel turned movie. He had quickly become the face of the supernatural-romance.

"Who was the woman you were talking to?" Rolf asked as he grabbed a jacket from the nearest chair.

"Just some random woman."

Meanwhile...

Nosferatu was searching the stacks once again for a copy of a book on Romanian folklore when she happened upon the rude cocky guy again. This time, she caught him flirting with a college student, the girl couldn't have been more then 19 and buying ever bit of what he was selling.
Spotting her, the guy told the girl to check in with him later. Clearing his throat, he waltzed up to our heroine, a devious grin on his face. He half turned towards the now empty spot where he'd just been, most likely checking to make sure she had left.
"You know, we've got to stop meeting like this. Did you find the book? That I left back in the spot on the shelf it belongs thirty seconds after you asked for it...okay you caught me, I didn't really need that book. I just thought I'd take it from you...not from you but at the same time cause in movies..." he cleared his throat again hands at his tie. The female's attention was solely on that action.

"You shouldn't molest your tie like that, you'll make your dick jealous." she turned to move from him, only to smash right into trenchcoat guy again.
He had a look on his face that she couldn't read. It might have just been boredom, or he might have actually been checking her out. Trenchcoat guy had short sandy-red hair, blue eyes, was chewing on a toothpick, both hands in the pockets of the coat.
He just stood there, blocking her path. She noticed he had on a faded t-shirt with a logo for the old black and white version of Lon Chaney's Wolfman. He then leaned in sniffing her hair.

"What's that perfume you're wearing? Decafe?" he continued on through the shelves. "Suits you. Next time maybe try Latte."

"You know him?"

"No." she shook her head crossing her arms giving her cleavage a boost. "But that's the second time in under three hours that I've bumped into him today. Literally. And oddly enough, both times I smelled wet dog."

"Okay. Um, I'm lecturing upstairs. If you're not doing much right now, would you care to sit in on it?" he sucked in a breath between his teeth, hands now in the pockets of his pants. "I'm Professor Seer by the way." he held out his hand for her.
There was a strange wave of pure relaxation come over her as she shook his hand.

"What's the topic?"

"Witchcraft in the 1940's."

Meanwhile...

Dagan sat down at the table beside Reuben, scratching at his chin. "Who's the chick at the copy machine?" Reuben shrugged. "Come outside for a smoke with me."

"Right now? Wait five minutes, I think Rolf is about to get a break." Reuben replied.

"I can't wait that long. Need one now." he stood back up, tossing the toothpick into the nearest trashcan. "He's going to get swarmed by lovesick twilighters the second he moves a foot from the set" he air quoted the word set. "or worse desperate forgotten housewives on crack."

"Someone sounds jealous." Reuben remarked as he paperclipped his printouts, not bothering to look at his friend.

"I'm not jealous." his voice cracked. "Jealous of what? The fact our best friend is whoring himself to soccer moms and their under-aged kids? Why would I be jealous of that?" he had his hands in the pockets of his trenchcoat, raising then so that he looked mildly like a bad imitation of a bat. He started to walk backwards in the direction of the doors.

"Yeah, but look at how much he's getting paid for it." Reuben commented under his breath. Dagan had already turned for the stairs and was half way across the lobby when he spotted the chick. She was going to the second floor with the guy he'd seen her with back in the stacks. Dagan didn't remember making the decision to follow them, but he found himself in the doorway of the lecture room. Looking around, he saw that most of the thirty seats were filled by young girls, some with novels in hand, others taking notes. The chick Dagan had followed was sitting by herself near the back of the room to the far left. He took the seat right beside her.

"Hey sweetheart. Got a light?" his breath hit her neck, sending a strange shiver over her.

"Don't smoke."

"So there's no point asking you to come with me outside for one?" he was practically resting his chin on her shoulder, as he made a sound that reminded her of a dog growling. Or a wolf.  The thought was an odd one that made her turn fully in her chair to look at him.  She had the craziest deja vu as she found herself watching his face, studying his eyes.

"Excuse me." she gathered her things rushing for the stairs. Taking a deep breath she pushed on the front door, but it was locked. Our heroine started banging on it, trying to get it open but only succeeded in making her hands bleed. She fell to the floor in a panic, the guy suddenly beside her, saying something, reaching for her. The female swung her leather bag at him, tears of panic blurring her vision. But Dagan was on his knees beside her, his eyes wide, telling her not to scream. Everything started to spin as she passed out.

Our heroine woke to find herself back in bed, shadows from the open window indicating it was almost dusk. Dagan was laying beside her, the smells of wet dog and stew heavy in the air. She started trembling as the tears poured down her face. The male woke as her crying shook the bed.

"You okay? Are you in pain or..."

"No. I was just having a really cool dream."  she turned to look at the werewolf as he grinned at her.

tune in again for another installment of the Nosferatu Adventures starring your heroine...me (straight up story. Yeah, I just wanted to go somewhere different with the story this year.)
