Okay, so this was a case of me flipping channels last night looking for a movie to watch, and have to admit, I almost decided not to watch it. This was a tv edit, and the timing of commercials was actually distracting from the film, just awkwardly placed. But with that said, the movie wasn't that bad. Stiller and De Niro seem to work fairly well together as a comedy duo.
I think what makes the film work, is that you can see some real life contrasts happening with the two families. Odd couple plots always seem to work because of their reflecting real life so much.
You can believe Dustin Hoffman and Barbra Streisand as this hippie-style couple. There is just a natural feeling of comfort with the two actors that managed to hit every note. Then again, I don't think I've ever seen a movie with Streisand that I didn't end up liking, her ability for comedy is always bang on.
And kudos to the animal trainer on this one for the scenes with the cat and dog.
