The Nosferatu Adventures S3 p3

The Nosferatu Adventures
page 62, chapter 62

The Seer scurried towards the edge of the woods, running away from the water, away from the witch. He didn't know how long he'd been knocked out? In his delusional state, he'd at one point thought he'd seen our heroine kneeling beside him, caught in the jelly like force field the witch had trapped him in.
He stopped once he was deep enough in the woods, slamming himself back against a tree, breathing deeply. Raising his hand, the Seer chanted under his breath, as a small red orb appeared. "Home." he blew on the orb sending it in a zig zag motion as it tracked it's way to the others. The Seer was too weak to transform reduced to trying to keep up with his own spell as it tracked the way for him.

Meanwhile...

Ash stood staring up at the sky, watching the sunrise over the tops of the trees, breathing deeply the smell of dew on the wings of the nearest birds, and the scents that drifted on the air from the market square. Someone was heading towards the square, just a mile or so up the main road with a cart full of fresh baked bread.
The male sighed to himself as he let his mind drift to when his wife was still alive and allowed himself the briefest of moments to remember the simple memory of her baking.  Ash didn't like to dwell on it too much. He still missed her after all these years.
The scent of another wolf hot in the air, he turned and stalked towards the back of the cabin.  When he spotted the Seer stumble out of the woods, he let relief wash over him. Rubbing the back of his neck he asked him where he'd been all night?

"Running for my life."

Meanwhile...

Finn stood by the door of the chicken coop, watching our heroine as she feed the birds. "I'm surprised they didn't all starve to death in the last two weeks with no one to look after them." she commented. Finn shrugged as he turned towards the front yard.

"Well, I guess this is it." he said his hands in the pockets of his jeans. "Suns almost totally up, another minute or two then I'm back to being a cat." he nodded unable and unwilling to keep the disappointment from his tone.

"Will we see you again?" our heroine reached over brushing a feather off his shirt. Finn smiled meekly, giving her a small shrug.

"I hope so." Leaning in, he planted a small quick kiss on her cheek. Taking two large steps back, he closed his eyes and braced himself for the transformation.

Nothing happened.
He didn't feel anything. Normally, he felt a cold rush of air flow over his body, a pressure in his ears along with a loud ringing noise, then his bones shifting and his fur growing back as his body would start to contract on itself till he was once again a cat. No more then a foot long, and ten pounds.

But for some reason, that just didn't happen. Finn studied his hands, touching his face, his chest, grabbing himself before spinning around searching for his cat tail. "Okay, what's going on? I should be back to cat form by now."

"Is it always instant?" she asked. Finn nodded. "You said when you got here that when your job was done you would turn back, maybe this wasn't your real task?"

He shook his head. "No, if that was the case, I won't have shown up here. I would have gone to wherever it was I was needed. Something is wrong, really wrong. I need to get to my witch." he took a step towards the right of them, still looking at our heroine when something stuck him causing the familiar to go flying backwards into the nearest tree. Springing to his feet, he saw who he'd bumped into.
The Seer was standing there, his skin paler then normal, his eyes glassy, his hair filled with dirt and seaweed.

"Hi."  he grabbed our heroine into a hug.

"You're all clammy." she commented "What happened?"

"Sea witch. Long story." the Seer answered as he swayed then passed out.

"Oh that's not good." our heroine tapped Finn on the shoulder. "Before you go recuse yourself, think you can help me carry him inside?"
